A massive brawl broke out between up to 20 family members during a funeral for an elderly woman in Richmond on Aug. 6, leading to one injury, one arrest and $20,000 in damage, officials said.
The Richmond Police Department said it responded to the Rolling Hills Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m. after several reports of a "chaotic altercation" between eight to 20 family members who were reportedly armed.
Sgt. Aaron Pomeroy said it was an instance of family drama that started between a brother and a sister who were attending their mother's funeral and who do not get along — and "it goes back many years."
The brother and sister sister were talking and got into an argument, when her boyfriend came over and encouraged her to walk away, Pomeroy said.
"The brother started beating on the boyfriend, and that's when it escalated and it became a brawl and we started to get calls," he said.
At some point during the physical fight, the brother got into the vehicle with the intention of driving over his sister, Pomeroy said.
"He attempted to drive toward his sister in an aggressive way, but instead he struck another female and sent her to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries," he said. The victim is 33 years old.
In the car, the brother also damaged the grass, knocked over and damaged headstones and vases, and broke a water main that ejected copious amounts of water and flooded the funeral plot, Lt. Matt Stonebraker, a spokesperson for the department, said.
The driver also reportedly knocked over the casket, but Stonebraker said the body didn't fall out.
When the brother got out of the car, a family member hit him in the head with a cane, injuring him, Pomeroy said.

Then there’s the scene with the TV showing Niagara Falls (”NIAGARA FALLS!”), and then water gushes out of the TV.
Did they shoot at the coffin?
Yeah, I guess so. I wonder what the fight between the siblings was about that started the whole disrespectful behavior at their mother's funeral.
The brother, a 36-year-old from Bay Point, was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. Pomeroy said the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the charges.
Rolling Hills Memorial Park said it could not comment on the incident as it’s under police investigation. Police said preliminary estimates from the park suggest the fight caused $20,000 in damage.
Lol! I think live, wiggling Trout were seen gushing out of the TV in that scene along with the water.
Who’s gonna clean up this mess?

Everybody is angry nowadays, but one of the problems with the “black community,” which is no community at all, is that they are all on a hair trigger…against each other, anybody who they think “disrespects” them in any way, somebody who makes eye contact.
This is animal behavior, where any interaction is considered a threat.
The “black churches” have done nothing to help these people, because they are nothing but self-enriching, cynical members of the Democratic Party.
Black people in this country need real missionaries, Christians who would go out and tell them they are human beings made in the image and likeness of God. Spanish missionaries told that to the Indians and they went from slaughtering each other under the command of a pagan despot to suddenly realizing they were human beings with individual responsibilities to the God who made them.
Nobody in modern times has ever evangelized the black population that way. There have been a few Catholic religious orders that tried, and St. Katherine Drexel certainly worked on it and built schools and orders for black Americans. But since VII, the Church has moved on to more exciting things, and as for the “black ministers,” they appear to have always been fraudsters, usually self-ordained, or Democrat operatives who went through the AME seminaries.
Sorry for ranting, but this is all a moral problem, and it is all because Christians have abandoned the evangelization of our African-descent population.
Clarence Thomas, btw, is the graduate of a Catholic school run by nuns and set up right after the Civil War by Bishop Augustin Verot for the children of the poor among recently emancipated black population. He grew up in segregated Savannah and lived with his grandparents (his grandfather was Catholic) and delivered kerosene at 4:00 am with his grandfather in the black part of town. But he had his school and his faith.
Catholic or Protestant, we need to get back to sharing the Gospel with the poor black population.
I didn’t know Chuck E Cheeze is in the funeral business.
“Now I guess Chuck E. Cheese will cancel their reservation for the wake.”
No problem, the Waffle House is available.
The pic at the SFGate.com link implies Asian!
I would be surprised if it is.
If our kiddos read the will beforehand, I would expect a similar send off.......
