The Monty Python legend says political correctness is ruining creativity in all aspects of human activity.
From shows and movies ranging from Monty Python's Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers to Life of Brian and A Fish Called Wanda, the comedian John Cleese has uproariously and relentlessly satirized politics and religion while stretching the boundaries of decorum and good taste like so many silly walks.
Now 82, Cleese—who studied law at Cambridge—has recently set his sights on political correctness and wokeism, which he says are the enemy not only of humor but of creative thinking in all areas of human activity.

“Don’t mention the war. I mentioned it once,
but I think I got away with it”.
I liked The Goodies satire style a little more.
quite right....just don’t mention the war
The Goodies were funny - and leftist.
Peter Cook was the father of British comedy. Cook and Dudley Moore were great.
Also Dave Allen.
True on both.
I didn’t catch the leftism as a kid seeing the reruns.
As with truth, there is little humor on the Left.
Brahms Third Racket!
Steven Crowder is another one, especially when Dave Landau is on the show.
I don’t mind people who are not for us. My problem is when they totally ignore the folks on the other side.
SHUT UP!
Yes, he is. I saw him live at Broward Center early in Trump’s first term, and he disparaged Our President several times. I was ready to walk out, but he stopped.
Remember the sign that said ‘Flowery Twats’?
Oh yeah, and Basil answering the phone, “Hello, Fawlty Titties”.
Cleese personally, he was a product of his times. But he has much to say about how to be funny and how to be creative, and we can learn from him. He might have done sketches about middle-aged housewives breaking up strikes and burning pornographic books, but who’s the book burners for real now?
Anti-Trump and anti-Thatcher. it's a shame, since he is intelligent. But he got involved with the wrong Americans, such as Jon Stewart and the cast of Will & Grace. Bad company. He also had bitter and expensive divorces from two American women, who shamelessly cleaned him out in the UK courts.
On the plus side, he loathes Rupert Murdoch and believes he ruined English society, an opinion I share.
In an interview some years ago Cleese called Republicans ‘’racists’’.
Screw him.
