Woke Hollywood Celebrates Slavers Because They're Black Women
The Daily Signal ^ | July 15, 2022 | Douglas Blair

The left’s obsession with centering everything on race and sex has reached a new and despicable low with an upcoming movie called “The Woman King.”

The “historical epic film” centers around the real African kingdom of Dahomey, which existed during the Scramble for Africa in the age of empires, around 1800 to 1904.

Viola Davis plays General Nanisca, leader of an all-female band of warriors known as the Dahomey Amazons, as she struggles against European attempts to conquer the kingdom....

The weirdest thing about this controversy surrounding the trailer is that the story of Dahomey is a genuinely interesting historical narrative....

Maybe I’m all wrong and this movie will dive into the scourge that the Kingdom of Dahomey represented in real life. But in our society shaped and molded by the left, where women and blacks often are depicted as blameless innocents only to be acted upon by evil white men, I’m not getting my hopes up.

Right you are. More years ago than I care to admit, I studied Astrology, precisely for that reason, so I could authoritatively ridicule it. I was in a bookstore (Barnes etc.) somewhere in Manhattan, browsing the subject when I picked up a book entitled, “The Textbook of Astrology”. I opened it up and the words were upside down so I realized that the dust cover was on backwards. I took it off to put it on the right way, and saw that the book COVER was on BACKWARDS! I bought it immediately. Great book. Just what I needed.

As for the Four Feathers, there are many versions of the film. I recommend that you start with the 1939 version, then there are at least 2 others, both good, in 1978, and 2002. The story varies little but the battle sequences are fabulous in all (IIRC).

If you’re into film let me know, we’ll talk some time.

The one with Jane Russell?
Yeah, it was pretty bad.

Any time I hear the word “Dahomey” it is usually in the phrase “Dahomey slave trade”.

You’re right. I almost had the comment deleted.
The French troops clobbered them at all ranges.

Sort of like The Last Samurai.

The Amazons could be the subject of a very, very good movie if handled right. But that movie would need to be honest about the nature and history of the Dahomey kingdom. The trailer for The Woman King doesn’t inspire confidence.

After such a glowing recommendation, I had to add it on my list of books to get.

That factoid might make ‘The Woman King’ director’s cut version.
