I like your assessment. Invasion, NO. Siege, Economic Blockade, cut off from world, YES. There is no advantage to physically invading. Too much valuable infrastructure will be damaged.
China can afford to sit off coast of Taiwan manning a blockade forever. Taiwan starves or surrenders. Real question is, will China stop US air bridge to Taiwan.
