Naming Things
American Thinker ^ | 31 Jul, 2022 | Clarice Feldman

Naming things is not insignificant in everyday life. How you call something shapes the meaning in your mind and manipulates your point of view.

In Genesis, Adam names all the creatures of the earth. “God formed out of the earth all the wild beasts and all the birds of the sky and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that would be its name.” There are lots of explanations for why this is significant, depending on your theological viewpoint. To me naming things is not insignificant in everyday life. How you call something shapes the meaning in your mind and manipulates your point of view.

Years ago, when I represented workers who were challenging their union’s leadership, the wise lawyer who worked with us (someone who had earlier honed his trade working for FDR and General MacArthur) cautioned me to be careful how we described ourselves -- we were to fashion our movement Reform Miners, not rebels, insurgents or anything else. Repeated often enough by us in interviews and in litigation papers that’s what the press would call us and that was to our advantage in the public mind.

So to me it’s not a small thing that this administration is changing the definition of so many things like women, vaccines, recession, and illegal immigrants. The press plays along. Wikipedia was forced to suspend the definition of “recession” after there were so many edits to hide the fact that we are in one by the classic definition used for years.

And the left thinks they control the language. It is easy to see them at work.

One day — perhaps not so far off — FreeRepublic, and all like it, will be shut down.

One day, it will just be gone. It may be a sudden collective of ALL BadThink sites, or it may be one-at-a-time; but voices against the reich can not be tolerated.

Plan now for when that day comes.

Changing names is an original Marxist tactic with one goal:

To get us to accept morally something that we otherwise will not accept, and thus to change first our thinking about something, then that changes our behavior about something.

Prime example: Homosexuality is now GAY. Not something bad, to be rejected, but something good and to be promoted.

Sad part has 2 pieces. 1. is that we quietly accept the practice of renaming; 2. it works and does change behavior.

When Adam woke up and saw Eve, his first words were “Whoa. Man.” And that’s how she was named Woman.

It all stems from Babel!

I have been posting this for years. George Orwell highlights the phenomenon: slavery is freedom, war is peace, etc. H3ll had tremendous power when all the world spoke one language; God changed all that and told the reason why.

All the empires since then have been an attempt to recapture that hegemony... especially the Assyrian, that uprooted whole populations and moved them into strange cultures. Alexander the Great didn't really need force alone; his Greek culture seduced much of the known world. Stalin uprooted the mostly Christian Armenians and moved them into Muslim Azerbaijan... look up Ngorno-Karabakh.

Now it is George S0r0s with his no borders fixation plus Klaus Schwab and the Great Reset. These things never change - until God finishes letting it play out. 🎯

How you call something shapes the meaning in your mind and manipulates your point of view.

And the left thinks they control the language.

The left does control the language. Here are some examples:

Using the term "sexual orientation" instead of "sexual preference" is woke.

Using “gender” instead of “sex” is woke.

Using “Black” instead of “black” is woke”.

Using “Gender affirming surgery” instead of “genital mutilation surgery” is woke.

Using "Undocumented immigrant" instead of "Illegal immigrant" or "Illegal alien" is woke.

Using the term "equity" (equal outcome) instead of "equality" (equal opportunity) is woke.

Affirmative Action = quotas = discrimination = woke.

Terms are important, which is why I'd like to change the abortion related term "unborn" to "preborn". But I've been trying for two decades with very little success.

Clarice should have named the author of that second pull-quote of alarming statistics about trans children — it is Christopher Rufo, who has done groundbreaking research ad writing on the the sexualization of children by Disney and the public schools.

Good point. There are people doing great work to protect children and they should be recognized.

I’m starting to like the word, “groomer.”

Why?

It pisses off many people on the left.
