26 Coal-Fired Power Plants in 14 States Plan to Stop Burning Coal Due to New Rule
Newsweek ^ | 11/22/21 | Lora Korpar

Dozens of coal-fired power plants across the U.S. plan to stop burning coal or to shut down by the end of the decade, the Associated Press reported.

The decision is not driven by climate change concerns but to comply with a new wastewater rule requiring them to clean coal ash and toxic heavy metals from the water before it's dumped back into streams and rivers. The plants had an October deadline to tell state regulators how they plan to comply.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the rule is expected to affect 75 coal-fired power plants across the country. The Sierra Club said at least 26 plants in 14 states said they will stop burning coal, with 21 shutting down and five switching to natural gas.

This is from November but I’m watching it come true in real time. I’m on the Ohio River and am watching plants close like falling dominos. I’ve always been told to relax because they’re switching to natural gas. That’s not very reassuring. I have seen three of five shuttered along my fifty mile stretch of river in the last three years. I pay .10 kWh still. When does this loss of capacity kick in in the form of higher bills and black outs?

It’s time to start standing up to the children who are puppeting Biden, before we end up like Europe, with cold showers and no electricity.

Where’s the Enviro-Whacko’s on opposition to solar and windmills due to disposal of the toxic waste components at the end of their life cycles? Does this give you a clue as to who is forcing climate change rules to sell and profit from it? Hmmmm??????

They said big wind farms in CA fizzled out when winds died down and the solar panel arrays faded to no output when heavy clouds filled the skies. But more cell towers and then more EV charging stations and home hookups took more energy.

Then it was either old time sources of power or blackouts. Newsom ordered blackouts.

When Newsom survived the voters’ recall election by a large margin he beamed at the cheering crowd and said “And remember, what happens here in California always happens later all over the country.” (cheers)

Natural gas prices do not have a stable price curve like coal.

The price of natgas has had wild swings over the last twenty years.

We may be subject to spikes at the worst of times - during the winter heating season.

These price spikes also affect electricity prices.

We're at $8 per mmBtu today. That's around 80 cents a therm for your heat, which was 25-30 cents a therm last winter and the winter before that.

Recall last winter’s cold snap that caused disruption in nat gas distribution systems all over Texas and the southwest. When that happens, a gret big ole pile of coal stacked on the yard of a coal-fired plant looks mighty good.

It’s hard to inventory nat gas at the power plant.

After all the rules put on coal, the coal energy suddenly became the most expensive energy around.
Like Obama promised.
“We are not going to prohibit building coal plant, but we will bankrupt you if you do. “
