A preproduction F-150 Lightning Pro SSV fitted out for police duty
Back in 2016, Ford fitted out a special F-150 truck for serve-and-protect duty as a police service vehicle. Now the company has done something similar with the new all-electric version of the pickup, which has been dubbed the F-150 Lightning Pro SSV.
Ford notes that it has supplied police departments with vehicles for more than 70 years, with its police vehicle lineup actually outselling those supplied by all of its combined competitors.
The latest addition to its lineup, the 2023 F-150 Lightning Pro Special Service Vehicle (or SSV for short), essentially combines the all-electric version of America's best-selling truck with the latest generation of the special-edition combustion-engine Police Responder mentioned in the opener.
Ford says that in standard battery configuration, the electric drivetrain produces 452 hp (337 kW) along with 775 lb.ft (1,050 Nm) of torque, payload capacity of up to 2,235 lb (1,013 kg) is possible and the e-truck is capable of towing 7,700 lb (~3,490 kg). With an extended battery option cooked in, the horsepower gets a bump to 580 and the towing capability to 10,000 lb.

Easily hackable. If this becomes wide spread among departments, you will most certainly hear stories about such cars being taken over and stopped by hackers.

How economical will these be with the New Green Deal electricity at a dollar or two per kWh? As I’ve noted before, I live on the Ohio River and see coal fired plants closing like falling dominos. I live within ten miles of the Moscow Ohio generating plant. In the 80s this was built and 90% complete as a nuclear plant. The China Syndrome liars in DC shelved it. At great cost it was converted to coal and has provided me with cheap electricity since. Last month the DC liar, Obama, and his lies finally caught up with it and the plant shut down permanently. Obama got three others within 50 miles of me. It’s pretty apparent that they really do intent to run the country on solar and wind, suffering people be damned.

For routine police work the EV might be find. Largely fixed route, charge overnight. For long pursuits, just let the bad guy go. That’s what police are supposed to do now, isn’t it?
Pickups for law enforcement are especially useful for things like road blocks, truck inspections, crime scene investigation, emergency response, debris removal, carrying of larger cargo or high weigh items, like contraband and evidence, towing trailers, or even simply off road capability.
And even though the range is only 320 miles, in a pursuit the F-150 Lightning's 4.0 second 0-60 time means it won't be outrun by most criminals.
Interesting. But I see these as not being normal vehicles
that would be used by squads doing actual activities that
don’t usually include pursuit. More like staff, upper level
officers, etc. But in time they may become patrol vehicles.

In times gone by, cops were considered fairly level-headed folks.
An all-electric cop vehicle is as daffy as calling Rachel Levine a real woman.
So how long can an EV go in the field without an 3 hour recharge ?

And in longer pursuits they radio ahead to have other vehicles intercept.

my dad was a high ranking police official for 34 years in prince georges county maryland...
this truck is worthless in law enforcement...
