I am curious about the legislative veto process. As it is now, if a bill passes the House it goes to the Senate. If it passes the Senate, it then goes to the President for his signature. What I would like to know is what is the veto override threshold, and if it is over ridden, will it become law? If after the mid term elections the Republicans take the House and the Senate, what margins will be required for a Biden veto to be over ridden and become law. Hope springs eternal!
Two thirds is 66.66% not 60%. 60% is three fifths.
Cloture (ending debate and forcing a vote) was changed to three-fifths (60) from two-thirds in the Senate.
No, there are other ways to get things done. The house holds the purse strings that needs to be used judiciously, but the impeachment of the Sec of Homeland Security, the AG, the Sec of Defense needs to be seriously undertaken. We just need people who are smart enough to figure things out.
2/3 of house and senate, rounded up if necessary.
290 house, 67 senate
the impeachment of the Sec of Homeland Security, the AG, the Sec of Defense needs to be seriously undertaken

I agree completely, but the GOP will never do it. They are too intimidated by the Democrats and the media. Paralyzed actually.
An entire replacement of every Assistant Democrat, plus the removal of every Democrat.
Too high a bar for the American voter.
shear decisive inaction.
Thats a damsite better than the garbage and lunacy thats been passing...
It may also be academic because there won’t be a “Red Wave.”

Last week I read that the generic ballot poll had Reoublicans winning by “double digits” for the first time. That first digit needs to be a 2, which I’m sure it’s not.
Remember 2020? Remember Joe’s 81 million votes to Trump’s 71 million? 81 is more than 10% more than 71, and the ‘Rats, or commies if you like, know they can pull off a 10% victory anywhere there are electronic voting machines, electronic vote counting, or mail-in ballots or drop boxes.
Hey, they already “counted the votes” in Michigan, and look how that went. :-)
Then we need to make them intimidated by us. As to the media, they are pretty much castrated, nobody believes them anymore.
2/3 of each House of Congress. If veto is overridden it becomes law.
A Bill may be passed by simple majority in the House and then is sent to the Senate.
Once the Senate received the Bill, one of the committees takes the Bill for review and to work out Senate differences with the House Bill.
Once the Senate committee works out its differences, it then votes the Bill out of committee and this Bill is sent to the full Senate for a vote to pass or not pass this Bill.
Once approved by the Senate and language in the Senate does not match word-for-word the House version of the Bill, then the Bill is sent to a joint House and Senate committee to work out their differences.
Once the Joint committee agrees to the changes, the Bill is voted out of committee and sent to the House and Senate for a full vote in each chamber.
If each chamber (House and Senate) approve the agreed House and Senate version, then it is sent to the president for final signing into law.
If the president doesn’t like the Bill he can either outright veto it or do a pocket-veto (keeps the Bill in his pocket, so to speak), and runs out the 10-day clock to approve or veto.
If the president vetoes or exercises a pocket veto (does nothing), then Bill is sent back to the Senate.
Once the Senate has it, they hold another vote. If the Bill returned by the president passes the Senate by a supra-majority (60 votes), it has over-ridden the presidential veto and it becomes law.
If the Senate fails to achieve a 60-vote majority vote on the Bill, then the presidential veto stands.
Complicated beyond the simple constitution language but that is how it is done now. . . . . . . .as far as I can recall.
You can track each Bill and its status, too include committee actions, and language in the Bill, by visiting: https://www.congress.gov/
My mistake. . .2/3rd majority in House and Senate to over-ride a presidential veto.
Typing while multi-tasking. . .it happens. . .
Wrong.
Thanks it was pointed out 3 times already.
Actually 67 senators.
Thanks for that explanation, I really appreciate it. You are correct, what is in the Constitution doesn’t explain it in this detail. Thanks for taking the time to explain the process.
know they can pull off a 10% victory anywhere there are electronic voting

*******
Dat being the case den them Pubs better get to practicing the
means in which to do the same or stop the dems in some manner
Congress can override a veto by passing the act by a two-thirds vote in both the House and the Senate. (Usually an act is passed with a simple majority.) This check prevents the President from blocking an act when significant support for it exists.
It may also be academic because there won’t be a “Red Wave.”

1) The GOP doesn’t do much to motivate its voters, and quite frankly a lot of people are fed up with their refusal to fight for anything. So a Red Wave in November is looking less likely IMO.
2) Even if there is one its nothing to get excited about. The Repukes are all talk and no action.
