I can just see it now... the brand new electric M1 Abrams headed off into battle... each one towing it’s own 1000KW diesel generator and a Tesla charging station behind it.

Of course, they’ll have to leave all the main gun ammo behind because it weighs too much. But hey, it’s ELECTRIC!

The Porsche design used engines to power generators, which in turn powered the tracks. I stand corrected that it was only the prototype, but the Porsche system did go on to be used in the Panzerjagers.

One major point here is that those machines were not battery powered. The electrical system was used instead of a gear box and drive train, just like a diesel-electric railway locomotive. The article is address the notion of battery powered tanks. That is way different.
