“...Jonah followed God’s command to preach to Nineveh...”
It isn’t quite that simple!
Qualifing context is necessary...
Jonah obeyed ONLY after first getting on a ship going in the opposite direction, then being thrown overboard from the ship during a raging storm and finally being swallowed by a great fish (whale), where he had time to think it over for three days, marinating in the dark and sloshing around in the digestive acids of the fish’s belly. He most likely showed up in Nineveh looking like a severely wrinkled grape with his acid burnt skin peeling from his body.
He didn’t go willingly by any means.
Furthermore, after he went and spoke, he sat down under a tree and pouted because Nineveh heard God’s message and repented. For this poutfest, God again scolded him.
Not quite the John the Baptist of his day.
...that is all
That’s hilarious. 🎉 😄 And may be close to accurate. 😀
Thanks for setting the story straight. :-)
Fair enough. My only point was that the Bible contains examples of obedience to God, not just disobedience.
