>> Why has the certification been allowed to expire?

The certificate WILL expire 1 year after issued. It must be replaced each year with a new certificate. It’s a PITA.

FR should switch their Certificate Authority to LetsEncrypt. It is free and has an easy-to-use auto-renewal script (ACME and WinACME) so you never need to worry about forgetting to renew a certificate.

So is this a tech company sticking it to Free Republic because it’s a conservative website and let the SSL certificate expire?

Maybe it’s just an innocent mistake, but you never know in tbe woke world of Big Tech which I used to be a part of.

You used to be able to get 3 and 5 year certificates. Then Google decided to only allow 1 year max certs in Chrome. So everyone else just bent over for them.

Sometimes I think Googlemis trying to become the next Microsoft.

SSL Certificates are sold by several companies. Fees are due annually. Someone should have gotten a notification via email that it was getting close to expiring. Maybe that email goes to Jim instead of John and Jim has been ill.

Yeah, I “accepted the risk” and continued.

Is my laptop or phone going to self-destruct, I wonder? :)

I got the security warning but then it asked me if I was fully vaccinated for Covid 19 before I could access the site.

Just kidding..

Folks, if you just click through the “advanced” prompts, rest assured that the data being transferred is still fully encrypted.

Just curious as to how all the posts asking about the site being down and expired certificates get posted while the site is down.
