This is a common disinformation tactic. The same tactic was used to cover the crimes of the 2020 election. The disinfo story overshadows the actual story and throws in some absurd concoction to destroy the credibility of the actual event.
In 2020 there were the planted stories of secret military operations seizing foreign servers which were controlling the voting machines, or other stories of secret watermarks on paper ballots which would catch forgeries. This helped destroy the credibility of the actual crimes of the election such as ballot harvesting and denying the ability of election monitors to \ monitor suspect polling places.
