Classic Rocker Mouths Off At Fan, Gets Dragged For His Trouble

Classic rocker David Crosby kicked a virtual hornets’ nest on Saturday when he complained about the quality of a portrait a fan shared on Twitter, calling it the “weirdest” painting of himself that he had ever seen.

Crosby — formerly of the folk rock group Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young — took things a step further, telling the artist not to give up his day job for a career in art.

“Hi @thedavidcrosby hope you are keeping well. Did a picture of you…. Thanks for the music,” the artist captioned his work.

“That is the weirdest painting of me. I have ever seen …..don’t quit your day job ……” Crosby replied.

“How’s this one, Dave? I just drew it quick, with the look on your face when you realize you may have come across like an asshole here,” @deebsFLA replied, sharing another drawing.

“Crosby, still an a**,” author Kealan Patrick Burke added.

Bill Corbett, “Mystery Science Theater 3000” alum, quipped, “Send up the Phoebe Bridgers bat-signal.”

“El contexto,” he added, referencing the time Bridgers called Crosby a “b****.”

“Bro you should be thankful you’re still getting fanart, I thought you were dead,” @girldrawsghosts added.

Other responses included:

@miffythegamer: “Such low rent behaviour to see an artist who got to where he wanted to be and who then tries to knock the self confidence out of another artist who was kind enough to paint him. Graceless and tacky.” @charley_ck: “Teach your children to not be David Crosby. #dontbeadavid” @smc429: “This is the nastiest, most ungrateful comment I’ve seen on this forum. It would behoove David to grasp the content of humility and gratitude. In addition, he lost a fan.” @edanclay: “David Crosby being a complete a**hole to one of his fans for no reason whatsoever just emphasizes how screwed up social networking can be. The art was cool and David Crosby just proved to the world he ain’t!” @billywaynedavis: “‘Sending David Crosby weirder paintings of him than this challenge’ begins now.” The artist in question came out of the exchange relatively unscathed — and offered a response: “After yesterday’s somewhat lively discussion on subjectivity in art appreciation, I’d just like to say thank you to the all the new followers and those who took the time to leave comments. Best wishes.”

“... Her ‘girlfriend’ at the time had the kids for her with Crosby’s ‘donation.’ Ugh!”

If the “donated” material created their son, the poor guy died of causes related to opioid addiction at the age of 21 in May of 2020.

They all rode off Joni Mitchell’s unique arrangements and chord progressions

So true! I didn't realize this until about 5 years ago. CSN copied her all the way--as did many others, including Chrissie Hynde. I don't particularly like Mitchell as a person (from interviews I've seen), but she was pure genius, while the others, especially Crosby, were simply talented. Though Stills was/is much more talented than Crosby and by all accounts Stills and Nash are decent human beings, something you can't say about Crosby.

I’ve been retired for a year and, so far, I have no desire to go back. But in my case it’s because we purchased 32 acres in Central kentucky which keeps me ridiculously busy, and we just build a 30x60 shot building that has a large 16x30 music room / man cave. I just finished finally painting it so I’m ready to put in the trim and finally get all the furniture in and the HiFi gear and the band equipment. So yeah, once I’ve got everything done maybe I’ll be ready to go back to work. :-)

Office staff girls at UC Irvine were helping me with a scheduling problem, probably around 1971. I mentioned David Crosby for some reason that I don’t remember. It turned out that several of them knew him, I guess because he kept his sailboat docked at Newport Beach. They were real emphatic about saying that he was a total asshole.

“How [Crosby] magically ended up at the top of the transplant list has never been explained.”

Well, he IS a flippin’ ‘National Treasure,’ *BARF*

Same with Larry Hagman, aka ‘J.R. Ewing’ on a friggin TV show and on ‘I Dream of Jeanie.’.

Why not be a MAN and save the life of a number of children? A liver CAN be donated to MANY, instead of just ONE liver to one self-absorbed ‘Hollyweirdo’ who already ruined theirs due to self-indulgence and/or addiction.

Another wrong in the world that needs to be righted!
