Right here on FR someone educated me about the existence of something called a tomato shade cloth. This sounds like something I could use as I live in SE Texas and usually my tomatoes cook in the summer sun. Hoping y’all can recommend which of these cloths are worth buying.
Pollard! Shade cloth assistance/advice needed! :)
Our last two beefsteak plants (Bush Goliath) are just about done dying. Don’t know if it was a blight, or just the heat here west of Tucson. We rigged shade cloth this year, but the temps at our place have been 105-112 highs for about two weeks now. The hose water comes out warm, too, which I’m sure doesn’t help.

Shade cloth is made of a weather-resistant, woven or knitted fabric in densities ranging between 12% and 90%. The density listed designates the percentage of light blocked by the cloth; for example, a 47% shade cloth blocks 47% of the light. In high heat, most vegetables should be grown under 30% to 50% shade. Shade cloth with density of greater than 50% is generally used for shade-loving plants or as a windbreak.
