My dad died of it at about 78, yet he did not drink (aside from a rare small drink of wine) or smoke, but was overweight (about 140lbs at 5'2'') and as a welder for about 40 years then he breathed in a lot of smoke from that.
Probably under a lot of pressure from his whack job wife too for holistic and natural remedies.
My wife had it. They cut it out. Went through horrible chemo and multiple surgeries.
Three years out and she is still clean.
She is the “rare” case that lives this long.
But because of the persistent nature of the disease, we feel like we are never “out of the woods.” It certainly changes your perspective on this stuff.
She and Jobs had cancer on the lower portion of the pancreas. As such, it tends to be slow growing and it takes a lot more time to spread. Cancer in the head of the pancreas is located at a place where it is like an large highway interchange where the cells can flow into many parts of the body.
The first is treatable. The second is the one that usually kills you before you know what is going on.
The guy in Dirty Dancing film died of pancreatic cancer. He had fame, looks and money but not enough to save him from the terrible disease.
Has anyone noticed that cancer only happens in cells and organs which produce proteins? Cancer is a mutation of the cellular energy process. It is not a disease of cellular DNA.
One of my takeaways from going through the process with my wife is that the infusion center is the most “equal” place on earth. There were young and old, rich and poor, and all colors in there.
And everyone cheered each other’s successes and suffered their failures.
I know four people in the past ten years in my tight circle of friends. Three are gone, one in treatment for a year now. All were heavy beer drinkers, cheap beer in cans. I always thought that was the common denominator.
ping for future reference
And you know this how? Also why didn’t magic Johnson die of aids when virtually everyone else did/has.
Because I spent the last three years dealing with this first hand, and doing almost daily research on it for the first two years.
Your expertise comes from?
I would guess 40 and 50 years ago it was difficult to diagnose or find and if one were to die from cancer it was so metastasized by that time it was difficult to pin down where it actually was. Plus we live a lot longer and there are a lot more people. Just my guess.
actually I do not think that was the case. Teaching hosptials and post mortems were key then. There were a lot of cancers that were well known however were non treatable.
There is a new possible “kill shot” for pancreatic cancer
People with these hideous diseases very justifiably will do anything to find a cure. I certainly would! I think Steve McQueen went to Mexico for coffee enemas...as an example. Finally, there’s always divine intervention or spontaneous remission...whatever you want to call it..as a last resort. Any way you slice it cancer is a nightmarish beast and the shame of it is our government squanders billions that otherwise could be used to find a cure.
RE: There is a new possible “kill shot” for pancreatic cancer
I ( in fact all of those reading this thread ) would be grateful if you could provide us information ( a link perhaps ) for this. Thanks.
Thank you for posting.
Good suggestion for ALL of us!!
Rare?
Possibly because other things took you out first.
We can now survive those things longer.
