Vanity

Posted on 07/11/2022 6:38:30 PM PDT by VTenigma

My best friend and great girl dog is off to a better place. This sweet rescue lab mix was struck with a very aggressive Lymphoma. Her suffering was mercifully short and we saw her off this afternoon. She was diagnosed last Friday and we had the weekend to be with her and enjoy her company. She was really my wife's dog at heart. When we went to pick a rescue she immediately ran to my wife and wouldn't leave her side the whole time we looked over the dogs so of course she came home with us. She truly loved the family and we helped her have a wonderful dog life with free range on our acreage. Never a moments' issue. We are grateful she blessed us with her love and we miss her beautiful, loving, silly, fun presence. God speed Kellie. Thank all you Freepers for allowing me this vanity post.

It’s Heaven on earth with dogs, I just wish they wouldn’t go so soon. Thanks.

Peace be with you. The love you gave her is like precious jewels. I lost Miss Kitty to this same disease years ago. Still brings tears to these old eyes when I think of her.

We lost our first dog just like this to lymphoma. She was a Lab/Cocker mix.

Then we rescued a Katrina dog (plott hound/lab mix) who lived another 15 years. She succumbed, basically, to dementia. Toughest dog ever. Shed like nothing I have ever seen too. (:

This past year I adopted an English Setter. The best thing I have ever done. Well one of the best. I love this dog fiercely. What a great breed.

it never gets easier. I deliberately waited a year to get another dog after we lost our cattle dog Hoshi

I waited 45 years after we lost our cairn terrier to old age.

I'd still be waiting if this little knucklehead hadn't showed up in our "pond" skin and bones, desperately thirsty last July when it was 103°.

Furry-Dipper-3

It took five months to earn his trust.

We're only guessing at his age and breed, we figure he's got about another ten years or so. We're going to make them very good years.

I'm already dreading that good bye, but take comfort in looking forward the joyful reunion when my time comes.

It’s a good thing to have rescue dogs.

Our Chaco is a Lab/pit/? mix. 16 and a half years old. just a loving dog. My wife’s dog, I’m more of a cat guy, but she is doing really well for her age. Her joints hurt , she doesn’t move well but is still a good, happy dog. She will be our last because we are not as able to take care of an animal as we once were. Good dogs are a blessing.

“putting a pet down is one of the hardest things I’ve ever EVER had to do in my life.”

I agree 100%. Have had to do it a few times over 30 years. It’s not ONE of the hardest; it’s THE hardest. You never truly get over it.

I waited 20years for another dog.

Problem is that there are plenty that need a loving touch. God spelled backwards

115 lb. Latest adventure was pulling me off balance, dragging me across the yard, and using the leash to ‘crack the whip’ my face into the side of the mail truck.

Very impressive CLONG-ONG-ONG when your skull hits an approximately 6 foot square of sheet metal...

...good thing he’s cute!
