My best friend and great girl dog is off to a better place. This sweet rescue lab mix was struck with a very aggressive Lymphoma. Her suffering was mercifully short and we saw her off this afternoon. She was diagnosed last Friday and we had the weekend to be with her and enjoy her company. She was really my wife's dog at heart. When we went to pick a rescue she immediately ran to my wife and wouldn't leave her side the whole time we looked over the dogs so of course she came home with us. She truly loved the family and we helped her have a wonderful dog life with free range on our acreage. Never a moments' issue. We are grateful she blessed us with her love and we miss her beautiful, loving, silly, fun presence. God speed Kellie. Thank all you Freepers for allowing me this vanity post.

He was always so happy when I came back. Would come to the door and even peek around, using his nose, to catch a glimpse of me as soon as possible.
He sounds like a silly one just like Kellie, so much fun.
My Mom (RIP) named him after a previous one. Both wonderful dogs; as were pretty much all we had.
Must have been this thread. I dreamt after getting off work at 4:40 this a.m.and he showed up in the dream.
Full color, with cooking food (burning slightly, lol) and there he was, at the back door wanting to go outside.
I’m still hearing the footsteps, I’ll get used to it soon.

Hoo boy. Something similar happened to my husband. He was walking our Newfie (180 lb.) and looking across the street instead of where she was leading him. Same sort of sound from the stop sign he walked into. Scary. She was beautiful. He was probably the best person I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing.
We’d catch glimpses of Corky for years and years. We’d see her sitting on the hearth and grinning, sacked out on the couch or a bed, or darting around a corner in the back yard, for just long enough to know she’s checking in.
Yeah, I get that too.
We found it comforting.
I did a keyword search on “dogs”, and this is one of the threads that came up. I’m so sorry for your loss. I still mourn the loss of the dogs I have owned over the years, particularly my soul-dog, a black Lab named Belle.

The reason I wanted to comment was to let Freepers know about an organization called Dogs on Deployment. It is a group that helps military people find people willing to take care of their dogs while they are away on deployment. Right now, there is a woman in Washington who is desperately looking for someone to take care of her dog, because she will be leaving soon for Japan. She is willing to drive the dog as far as the midwest even.
