Citizens of the United States are being “held hostage” by a “far-right Christian court,” according to MSNBC anchor Joy Ann Reid, who attacked the Supreme Court for its various rulings which she alleged frequently rules “in favor of religious institutions.”
MSNBC’s Joy Reid made the divisive remarks on Wednesday, ahead of the Supreme Court’s overruling of Roe v. Wade, holding in the Dobbs case that the Constitution does not include a right to abortion and returning the issue of abortion laws and regulations to state legislatures.
Reid claimed that in a country “that’s supposedly founded on the separation of church and state, we Americans find ourselves being held hostage by a far right Christian court.”
According to The ReidOut host, under the leadership of Chief Justice John Roberts, “the court has ruled in favor of religious organizations more than 80 percent of the time — far more than any court in the past seven decades.”
She then pointed to both the 2014 landmark Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. decision as well as the later Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission case.
“There was the Hobby Lobby case which allowed businesses to refuse to include birth control in their health care coverage and the time they allowed a bake shop to refuse to make a cake to celebrate a same sex marriage,” she said.
She also highlighted a recent Supreme Court ruling against the exclusion of religious schools from a program that offers tuition aid for private education.
“Just yesterday, the court ruled that state programs providing money for public schools cannot exclude religious schools requiring taxpayers to fund Christian education,” Reid said.
“And it’s far from the only important decision coming from the court this session,” she added.

America is held hostage by Marxist Oligarchs and their lame thinking supporters.
And the evidence that people are “held hostage” is mostly that they now have to make travel plans and go to some state of their own choosing to have elective surgery. That kind of hostage.
Must really suck to be so pissed at the world every day.
I’d rather be held hostage by a far-right Christian court than a far-left atheist court. The 1st amendment to the Constitution guarantees Freedom of Religion. Not Freedom from Religion. And separation of church and state is idea from Jefferson, but it is NOT in the Constitution.
Because in the demented minds of Evil Leftists, the freedom to murder babies in the womb constitutes “freedom” in their twisted minds.
Freedom to those Evil POS is embodied by sticking scissors into the base of the skulls of babies and then sucking their brains out. Dismembering those babies and then selling their body parts for “science”.
These people are EVIL in the flesh! They must be defeated at all costs. This fight must never end. It was once said, (paraphrasing) that in order for evil to succeed good men (people) must do nothing to oppose it.
We, good people must oppose it with all of our might. Eternal Vigilance against EVIL is required.
Blow it out your other hole, gasbag!
I guess those who agree with the decision aren’t Americans, and probably not even human.
Joy Reid has arrogated to herself the right to determine this.
What? You don’t like it when you don’t get your way? Don’t care, you twit.
“Come on, Christians! Don’t be ashamed. Come right out and say it. You want blacks back in slavery!”
Free at last!
Local news here had sympathetic stories on pro-abortion types then treated religious people as buffoons who aren’t educated enough to be pro-abortion.
No one says:”Just 1% of women obtain an abortion because they became pregnant through rape, and less than 0.5% do so because of incest...” old USA Today article.
and
2.8% to save a woman’s life.
Not a lot but the Leftists made the “health” protection to women look like millions die every week. Bull.
Profound ignorance, unbelievable.
Christians in the New England states were the main source of the political energy that drove the abolitionist movement.
They don’t like it when we play by their rules and still beat them.
But that is precisely the sort of thing she would say. She is a shining example of failure of the educational system.
Just human decency and the Constitution, Joy. I suppose that’s too much. Go ahead and beat on Lot’s door.
