Nothing like unwrapping a simple sandwich on a camping trip. It's the perfect lunch to pack.
I don't understand why people feel like they have to slap condiments on sandwiches however. They make the sandwich much messier to eat and condiments can spoil rather quickly, making the whole sandwich taste nasty.
Just give me the meat, cheese and bread. Wrap it up in wax paper and shove it into your backpack.

Wait . . . What's this about "Why You Shouldn't Store Your Avocados in Water After All"? Were we supposed to be storing our avocados in water? But now we shouldn't? Who knew?! Avocados are now $1.50 at my local market, so they won't be on the menu for the time being, but still . . .

Two things I dislike about going to France - when I come home the bread and the coffee don’t taste that good.

The best part about that french sandwich is its bread....I don’t believe you can find anything like it, here in the States.

It’s just baguette, butter, and ham, and it is perfect.I bought a couple of these off the street when we were in Paris years ago. Absolutely perfection. I make my own bread, but a baguette in France is special

The secret to it being a quality sandwich is quality ingredients.
I need to go to Isaan (NE Thailand) So I can get a decent Banh mi. Lots of Vietnamese refugees settled there. Nothing like a good Banh mi....

Ham and butter sandwich? Way too greasy. For me it is ham, Swiss, lettuce, mustard. And if going on a hike, to avoid a soggy sandwich, you can put half a head of lettuce in a separate plastic bag.

Which ketchup goes with that kind of sandwich?

The author has a point about simplicity. My daughter and I regularly get together for meals. Sometimes we just are not very hungry. We resort to something quick and simple when that happens. Our solution, just a baguette and a glass of wine. Great bread and good wine. It doesn't get much more simple. Good company makes a meal more than lots of food.
A jambon-beurre is just one step removed and a good solution to a little hunger when a full meal is not required. Just add some good butter and ham. Want to take that a step further, make a croque monsieur - add béchamel sauce and grill. Not satisfied yet? Add an egg and have a croque madame. It all starts with good bread.

When I was a kid who had no money, the best beach sandwich was Jones Beach catsup on bread, or hot water with catsup.
We also walked to the beach.
Can’t do that today.
