Newly released body camera footage reveals the sickening moment a deputy and a dirt bike rider were engulfed in flames after the officer fired a taser at a gas station.
Deputy David Crawford was heard screaming in pain and begging his fellow officers to 'put out' the fire on his legs as he desperately rolled around.
Meanwhile his victim, dirt bike rider Jean Barreto, 26, was 'cooked alive' in the fireball which left him with third-degree burns on approximately 75% of his body.
Both remain in hospital after the February 27 incident at the Wawa gas station in Florida. But Crawford will likely face misdemeanor charges of culpable negligence for igniting the explosion, Osceola County Sheriff Marco López said.
Police are also planning to charge Barreto with several charges, including resisting arrest, if he survives.
Osceola County Sheriff have released body cam footage of the incident this week under mounting pressure from the victim's family and the media.
The first is from Crawford's camera and shows him approaching the gas pumps where Barreto was filling his bike before tackling to the ground.
'Get off the bike! Get on the ground now,' Crawford can be heard yelling in the video as a fellow officer pulls out his Taser and fires it at him.
Footage shows gasoline pouring onto the ground after the officers failed to allow Barreto to put on his gas tank before they tackled him.
Crawford acknowledges the gas, saying: 'Kill the pump, kill the pump, there's gas' and his fellow officer drops the Taser.
But Crawford then picks it up, warning: 'You're about to get tasered again, dude,' the fires the Taser.

Here it's only about one in four.
Police work is basically common sense, which isn’t so common anymore with some of these younger officers.
Actually, if you follow the orders of the police, there is almost a 100% chance nothing will happen. This knucklehead led the police on a high-speed chase and then decided to resist arrest. Since the police officer ended up burning himself, I seriously doubt he knew his firing off his Taser would make this guy medium well.
“defend yourself. They are murderers.”
They sometimes are, but they have the power of der state behind them, you do not.
“Back the blue until they do it to you.”
"Do you know how a taser works?"
Hate to tell you but it’s still not clear that the guy running from the police and the guy calmly getting gas for his dirtbike are the same person. Just because the cops involved say so doesn’t prove a bloody thing to me. I’ll wait on an independent investigation.
I have never posted a reply on Free Republic without actually reading the story in the link. Not today anyway. But have you seen the video? This guy was blindsided, knocked down, forced onto his belly face down, pummeled with fists, and handcuffed behind his back, and was being held down by at least one officer, while wearing a motor cycle helmet cutting off his peripheral vision of his assailants, oh, and doused with gasoline and some point in the fracas. Yet Deputy "Respect my Authority!" decided to light him up with a taser.
The motor cyclist was certainly a felony suspect (I assume evading with a motor vehicle is a felony in Florida), but was he the perp, or just a citizen with the wrong color bike? If he had a cell phone on him law enforcement has certainly subpoenaed its location history, and, unless they don't want definitive proof, have asked his cell service provider to expedite the response to the subpoena. The more time goes by without an announcement from the Sheriff that, however appalling the way the arrest turned out, the motor cyclist was the perp, the more likely it is this guy got torched because of his choice of bike color.
I have been pulled over by police at least 15 times in my life, and questioned at least twice while on foot. Never had a single problem, I never was frightened for a moment.
Not only all of that. But what jurisdiction does a Osceola County Sheriff have in Orange County? Does it carry over? Which country gets to cover all these bills? Was Orange county in the loop on this chase?
Oh look, a n00b troll.
Might you be a retread?
You just hit the nail on the head on why I have the opinion of police that I do.
Of course they will. I wouldn't be surprised if they had still arrested the guy while his skin was melting off.
I get it, the guy had been driving like an a-hole. But tasering him at the gas pump! Horrible. That poor young man.
Does your parole officer know you're on the Interwebs again?
There is a special place in hell for these cops
Who does that then stops for gas?
I looked at some of the video footage.
It’s very grainy, but it appears the biker in the chase has a white helmet.
Jean Barreto is wearing a red helmet.
“Who does that then stops for gas?”
Target of opportunity. That will teach those nasty dirt bike riders not to diss them.
