Netflix's layoffs earlier this week, which saw 150 employees go, had targeted many 'social justice warriors' who were working on projects about anti-racism and marginalized communities in an apparent purge of 'wokeness' from the company. The struggling streaming service has pulled the plug on several projects that were aimed at discussing race to a young audience, Variety reported, and axed the diverse employees working on and promoting them.

A good 10 years too late and after they made sure to piss off a lot of their longstanding customers to the point that those customers have dropped them, it seems to have finally dawned on Netflix that their customers/the audience wanted entertainment, not nonstop sermons and lectures from the wokeratti.
This is yet another fine example in the long tradition of firmly shutting the barn doors once all the horses have bolted.
What do they not understand?
When you have to cut costs it just makes sense to cut your most useless workers
HR policies at Netflix seem to be heading in the right direction...
Sounds like they’re beginning to understand.
Are Barry, Michelle, and Susan Rice still on the board of directors?
It seems they are reading the Disney tea leaves but are still going to suffer for throwing in with the likes of BO & Moochelle.
The Musk Effect
Whoa!! We haven't heard the end of this "outrage."
This is clearly a case of the non-diverse employees not being diverse enough in their diversity-constrained thinking to produce sufficiently diverse content. But what if the firings were diverse enough?
If "diversity is our strength," does that mean that firing diverse employees made Netflix weaker? How can they get stronger on the rebound?
Modern life is so tough. Meritocracy, where you performed and produced products and services people people wanted or you got fired, was so simple.
Funny how going broke seems to make for an attitude adjustment.
‘An editor at Netflix’s little Tudum project just called me offering me a job with Tudum again,’ Blackburn tweeted after he was fired. ‘Then called me back 20 mins later to say they had the wrong Drew. Bright minds over there for sure.’
The most notable of the scrapped works was Antiracist Baby, based on Kendi’s book of the same name, which had been envisioned as a series of animated vignettes set to music and intended to explore racism in America.
Netflix had previously said that the show would ‘leverage the power of earwormy songs to empower kids and their caregivers with simple tools to uproot racism in ourselves and society.’
I remember those. beans in my ears................, but they weren’t grooming songs..................
I a bit “so what” with this.
The article says “many” who were social warriors were laid off.
Assuming Netflix was cutting back based on a business decision, some of those “cut” would naturally belong to some subset of the employees there. And I would think Netflix has more social champions than any other subset. So do the math.
Maybe the content doesn’t seem to be profitable? Anyone think of that? The problem many on the left have is they believe they are the center of everything because whatever cause they are working for they believe is just.
I have news for this group. People have been getting laid off for decades. The motivation is usually financial. They should go off an start their own streaming service if they feel so determined about this.
I see this as a non-story.
I see Susan Rice but not the Obamas. I thought they had a big role in Netflix.
Did themselves a huge favor Believe me, these were not the hardest working 150 employees at Netflix.
Here it is, they are “producers” of neetflix content. Does anyone think they will be laid off? Funny how their input seems to be invisible.
