Peter Schiff says the US government could be forced to cut Social Security and Medicare

Partial transcript:

“So this time we have a worse financial crisis than last time and nobody gets a bailout, nobody gets a government check there is no TARP there is nothing and what does that mean that means the US government instead of sending stimulus checks to Americans who were struggling, who are unemployed the US government is actually going to send Americans a bill because the government is going to be forced to raise taxes on the people who still have jobs because that's the only way it can pay its bills but you know what else they're going to do they're going to cut Social Security, they're going to cut Medicare not for future recipients but for the people who are getting checks right now.

The government is going to have to tell people who are on Social Security and who vote you know what we don't have enough already the Fed is fighting inflation right now and so we don't have any extra money and the cost of paying the national debt has skyrocketed and you know we have to pay a lot of money to Japan and China and Saudi Arabia and we don't have any money left over to make Social Security payments so we're going to have to cut your payments. Now maybe they won't say that maybe we're going to say you know what we're just going to tell a Japanese to pound sand and we're going to tell the Saudis and the Chinese we don't have any money we're defaulting on US treasury’s because the only way we can pay Social Security is not to pay you and the people who get Social Security vote and you guys don't. I mean it's going to be some combination of this but can you imagine what would be happening in the US economy if we were doing that if we were defaulting on treasury’s and cutting Social Security raising taxes on the middle class this is all what has to happen if the markets are correct that Powell is committed to fighting inflation and doing whatever it takes but I know that's a fantasy there's no way Powell is going to do any of that at the first sign of real trouble the Fed is going to pivot, the Fed is going to call off these rate hikes in fact any rate hikes that have been delivered will be reversed.”

We can expect a fear/anger campaign to occur regularly till Election Day . To sum it up, ‘if you vote Republican, everything I’m talking about will come true’. However the truth is, it’s happening because of a direct response to Democrat policies.

Fear and anger, fear and anger , repeat till Election Day.

I want to remind everyone that it is hard working people in the private sector that always gets the shaft. The poo is going to hit the fan, but this time we need to make sure that the solution to the economic crisis hurts the people who helped make the problem in the first place: unproductive, lazy ass government employees who always get pay increases, benefits, and pensions without fear of being fired. Every damn public sector union thug in the nation needs to be fired. Start balancing the budget by cutting the crap out of government. That is the problem and that is what needs to be eliminated.

40 billion. FORTY BILLION

In truth the forty billion is barely a drop in the bucket, but it is certainly a thing the dems and the establishment republicans should be pilloried and flagellated over. Do we all remember the weeping and gnashing of teeth over the three or five billion it was going to cost for the contracts to build the wall on the Mexican border? And now forty billion is just waved through as another down payment for a war nobody in America actually wants to participate in?

They can start with welfare and the Department of Education.

There are places all over the country begging for workers and paying pretty decent wages. There is no shortage of jobs, just people who are so entitlement minded that they think they are owed money by Uncle Sugar for sitting around on their lazy butts being supported by the government.

Hunger is a great motivator for working.

I just experienced that. I had to pick up the supplemental at 65. Because I still work and make good money, my Medicare is nearly 400.00 a month plus they take Medicare from my check. When I go to the doctor, they want my supplemental card. They don’t even want my Medicare card. I paid Medicare for 48 years. Where did my money go?

Oh I’m sure that’ll be popular

Cut social security and throw millions more into the job market

Medicare already doesn’t cover much

They’re never going to do that - it would be too politically damaging. What they’re going to do is let inflation go on at a higher rate while claiming its only 7% or 8% because they stripped out fuel and food and housing from the calculation. The real rate of inflation is about twice that. But people on Social Security will get cost of living increases based on the claimed 7 or 8%.....thus their payments are effectively being cut without the government admitting it.

That inflation of course effectively reduces the debt burden too. It crushes retirees and the poor and the working class, but it does make the debt payments easier for the government.

Bingo. They’re never going to openly admit that they are effectively cutting payments. They will cut payments by stealth ie inflation.
