Everything always gets messy once kids get involved — especially when it comes to relationships and marriages.
This story is no different — a 27-year-old man and his 26-year-old wife used to have a great relationship until one night, the wife “got drunk, had a one night stand, and got pregnant from it.”
Now, he doesn’t know if he’s in the wrong for refusing to adopt a child that isn’t his.
The affair occurred five years ago, and although they almost went through a divorce, couples therapy convinced them to stay together and try again — with some arrangements to how they would go about parenting.......
The only person here who wasn’t in the wrong was the child.

This sounds like one of those “Dear Playboy,” fake stories. First, in most states, the child is legally the husband’s because he was married to the mother at the time of conception. Some fathers have DNA-proved they weren’t the dad and still had to pay child support to their ex-wife. I call shenanigans on this one.
He’s an idiot for not divorcing her at the time. He’s still an idiot if he doesn’t divorce her now.
Oh, he knows what to do, he's just afraid to do it.
Exhale, take a deep breath, brace himself, close his eyes, and pull that eject handle hard.
He is still responsible for the well being of the child whether he adopts or not. He should divorce the wife, though.
Was wifey so drunk she doesn’t remember who impregnated her?
Exactly.
Nobody seems to care about the child. Poor little kid is not to blame for his crazy parents and he definitely needs support. Someone needs to be responsible for the child’s needs. Rotten of the woman to have an affair. Rotten of real dad not to support kid. Rotten situation, but please step up, hubby and take care of innocent victim.
Yes. From what I have read, that is not unusual.
I wonder if she ever informed the actual father that he had a child.
I would adopt the kid, use the shallow grave near the airport divorce method (cheaper, trust me), and find a decent woman.
The band was hot so
They danced the famous Merengue
Now we dolly back
Now we fade to black
I bet the child’s father is someone they both know. She just says it was a one night stand, so nothing can go further.
Treat the kid well. As part of the family but have the wife sigh paperwork that she forfeits all claims to him and his (kids, family, money) in the event of divorce. If she is “willing to try again” then this judicial revocation of rights should be a no issues. Nope, the file for divorce with prejudice. Ask for his kids and she can get Child support from the donor. Risk nothing win nothing.
“Rotten situation, but please step up, hubby and take care of innocent victim.”
The guy is 27 now, so 22 when this happened meaning they couldn’t have been married long. Recently married and she’s going out, getting drunk, and having sex with some random guy and you think this marriage is salvageable? No way she loves or cares for this guy if she’s doing that. And she’s quite likely to do it again. You must have cuck fantasies or something. Let her track down the real father and hit him up for support.
Ditch the bitch and let her out to dry.
These days, get a DNA test every time. Otherwise the guy will be on the hook for decades.
FReepers are being way too harsh here. There are a million reasons to stay together and only a few to split apart.
The being said, get a test to confirm or not. If it isn’t his kid, do not adapt! I had a soldier and knew of another guy that married and adopted the woman’s kids. The women turned around and screwed the soldiers over, hard core once they were adopted.
Find the sperm donor and make him pay. Raise the kids the best you know how.
Any relationship should be based on trust. She clearly destroyed that even before getting pregnant. Now with a child, that will be a constant reminder of her unfaithfulness. I feel sorry for the child but I would have lost my mind if that happen to me and my husband got some woman pregnant.
It doesn’t matter if he adopts or not, some Courts have already been ruling if the man was a “father figure” to the child he’s on the hook for child support. Didn’t you notice that she’s pressuring him to let the child call him daddy instead of uncle? She’s just setting him up before she screws him over financially.
good one :)
