If I didn’t have formula I would use whole milk and trust God. If moms aren’t knowledgeable they might those one of those milks that are not milk and endanger the babies growth. Cow’s milk used to be called complete and it still is.

You’re right - also goat’s milk is a substitute I think some mothers use.
Yesterday our local ABC station posted an article about how dangerous it was to use the evaporated milk recipe because “kitchens aren’t sterile environments” and “babies need the extra nutrients breast milk and commercial formula provides”.
They were being blasted because they offered no alternatives to the empty shelves.

True, that kitchens aren’t sterile, and that’s why we sterilized the homemade formula in the bottles in boiling water for some length of time (20 min. maybe, don’t remember.) But do you remember the Unit we boiled the water in? Big metal pot with a divider inside that held 6-8 bottles. Fill the bottles, place inside, bring water to boil, sterilize, cool then refrigerate. EZ.

My father as an infant could not digest cow’s milk. His mother got a goat, and pasteurized that milk for him. He thrived on it.
