Coming out of lurkdom to ask all meme creators, etc.:

What is the proper meme copying and re-posting etiquette?
Do I need to send a hat tip to original poster? I re-post on Twitter and Truth Social.

The reason I ask is because I saw someone on TS complaining about folks borrowing meme’s from them so I want to be sure :-)

I think memes are made precisely to be stolen. I steal ‘em. I use ‘em as I see fit to fight derps. No credit is usually given by me. Like on the chans.

If they want credit for creating a meme they should put their name on it. Some do.

If they want credit for being the first person to post somebody’s meme, I think their hearts are three sizes smaller than their heads.

But I’m not the creator if the memes, so creators should chime in.

Memes are freely distributed. No need for hat tips. The only faux pas is to claim one as your own when it’s not.
