The newly released tape of the House minority leader suggesting the resignation of President Trump may bespeak a swamp that's more contaminated than any of us can imagine. First, who did the recording? And second, who released it? CNBC reports that Representative Liz Cheney denies leaking the tape of her conversation with Kevin McCarthy.
A spokesperson for Cheney, one of two Republicans on the House select committee probing the Capitol riot, said in a statement Friday morning that the congresswoman "did not record or leak the tape and does not know how the reporters got it."
Rachel Maddow played a portion of the tape in conjunction with a report on the upcoming hit piece on Trump, This Will Not Pass by Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns. They allege that on January 10, 2021, McCarthy talked privately for 45 minutes with Representatives Scalise, Cheney, and Emmer to discuss his thoughts on asking Trump to step down.

McCarthy is caught on tape saying, "This is what I think, we know that it'll pass the House. I think there's a chance it'll pass the Senate, even when he's gone." What does McCarthy mean by that? If Trump were to resign, there wouldn't be much to vote on. He goes on to say, "Now, this is one personal fear I have. I do not want to get in any conversation about Pence pardoning. Again, the only discussion I would have with him is that I think this will pass, and it would be my recommendation you should resign."
This is looking a lot like the tip of an iceberg. Are the phone conversations of members of Congress recorded routinely? Do they know they're being recorded? And why is only this portion of the tape being released? And why now?

This article asserts that he was recorded in a phone conversation. I haven’t been able to confirm that detail.
However, if true, I have one comment:
I’ve been asserting for years - along with (few) others - that the Awan Brothers scandal was not a foreign power’s doing, but ours.
I have my own thoughts, but it begs the question: Why?
This article pulls back that curtain a bit, phone conversation or not. IMHO.
Because McCarthy should NEVER be SPEAKER!! He’ll be worse than Boehner and Ryan! We are at WAR with the Liberals....he’s ONE of THEM!
The first and most likely scenario is that zelcheney did record it and did release it and is lying about having done so.
The second is that, yes, the deep state is monitoring congress, and us, 24/7 via our cellphones. But yes, it is a pain in the neck to go searching through the vast amounts of data the Big Ears are picking up and storing - could even take and hour to query the data on right person at the approximate time and then have to listen to the play back looking for juicy incriminating bits.
Do tell about the AWAN’S!! And WHY were they ALL let go back to whatever hellhole they came from!

I personally believe that that is exactly why Trump lost. I’ve never seen this as just a Democrat thing. It’s the uniparty attacking an outlier. The Democrats were just allowed to be the overt side of the uniparty.
When they release the part about him wanting Twitter accounts blocked for Reps that objected to the certification, it will officially end his chances of being Speaker.

For sure. It was a effort from almost all to get Trump out. They simply were afraid maybe he would put someone who is not deep state in position to investigate the total corruption in DC. Which he should have stripped the DOJ and FBI. Got a new group to walk in all at once and seize computers and what they were doing or not doing.
Or Trump get people elected that would tattle tale on the others. They simply could not continue business as usual with him in office. My guess is over half the Republicans that will win the midterms (if it’s the flip we think it will be) are deep state. Or compromised.
We saw the evidence of fraud but nothing happened and I doubt anything will. The Kraken never happened. Sydney Powell when asked the last time about the raid in Germany said don’t be surprised if we find republicans involved. After she said that Trump separated himself from her and she was gone. What happened to the guy in Italy that signed a affidavit in front of a judge admitting he switched votes and sent them to Germany. Trump has a lot of info he isn’t releasing.
But the tape had to do with them trying to cast doubt and drive a wedge in the party.
McCarthy was never a reliable leader. No one here is surprised by this lack of conviction for the truth. He should have called for that rather than political expediency.
We should be suspicious of anyone whose butt buddy is Frank Luntz. Just my opinion, of course.
The Democrat’s basic philosophy is malignant, criminal and destructive and they cling to it faithfully
The Republican’s basic philosophy is noble, liberating and uplifting and most of them haven’t come close to it in years

It was played on War Room this week — Friday, I think. It was an MSNBC clip from Rachel Maddow’s show.

What McCarthy actually said was ‘I’m serious thinking of’ telling Trump to resign, and ... ‘What I think I’m going to do…’ He uses the subjunctive mood in his conversation with Cheney meaning it is hypothetical, not intentional. ‘The only discussion I would have with him…’ means McCarthy is talking about what he MIGHT do if he has the call. Obviously, McCarthy had further discussions with other people that persuaded him NOT to call Trump and urge him to resign.”
This tape isn’t working out the way they thought it would … lol . Weakens McCarthy , strengthens Trump.

If this call was truly copied without the participants knowledge then all of Congress has one hell of a lot to worry about. No call is secret. If the FBI is not publicly called to investigate then we will know that Cheney copied the call.
