What is your favorite song that actually tells a story?

Posted on 04/22/2022 3:56:36 PM PDT by Beowulf9

I admit I saw this elsewhere but I thought it might be a good thing to put here because honestly I look and listen to songs people post. I am always entertained and it opens my mind to many different avenues of musical tastes I have not known before. I hope ones like this column.

Traffic’s John Barleycorn is a good choice: ”Little Sir John in the nut-brown bowl”. Marty Robins’ El Paso is another good choice. Although, the first one that comes to mind is Brandy, by The Looking Glass.

"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot

It's an epic song based on the true story of the tragic loss of an ore carrier on Lake Superior in November 1975.

Rime of the ancient mariner - Iron Maiden

Alot of Maiden songs are written about history ect. Aces high is about Battle of Britain, The Trooper is about the charge of the light brigade, Powerslave about Egyptian times ect..
