Taiwan news channel accidentally airs false report of Chinese invasion

A Taiwanese news channel has broadcast by mistake a fictional news alert that said Chinese armed forces had launched an invasion, firing missiles at cities and ports surrounding the capital, Taipei.

Several news captions declaring a violent attack by China’s People’s Liberation Army had been mocked up for forthcoming security drills, but were broadcast accidentally to Taiwanese viewers at 7am on Wednesday.

“New Taipei City was hit by communist missiles, the Taipei port has exploded, facilities and ships were damaged and destroyed,” the Chinese Television Systems (CTS) news ticker read.

The New Taipei fire department told the Guardian the fake news alerts were supposed to be shown on 5 May during the annual disaster response drills, which will this year include a missile attack scenario.

Taiwan has lived under the threat of invasion by neighbouring China for decades. The ruling Communist party considers Taiwan to be a breakaway province of China, and has not ruled out using force to “unify” it. Taiwan rejects Beijing’s claim, saying it is already an independent nation.

Under the increasingly authoritarian rule of Xi Jinping, China’s government and armed forces have raised economic, diplomatic, and military pressure on Taiwan, including disinformation and propaganda campaigns. In the last two years there has been a marked increase of air force sorties into Taiwan’s air defence identification zone, and other military exercises designed to intimidate Taiwan, whose air force scrambles in response to each incursion.

They are getting their stories ready, just like preparing obits ahead of time. You know they will be needed sooner or later.

They are getting their stories ready, just like preparing obits ahead of time...

Be aware that more and more, recently, these stories appear on Telegram channels, days or even a week or so, before they appear on the web and thus on FR.

Yes, the way obits are prepared in advance (and sometimes published prematurely). Or maybe they were testing how various entities — foreign, domestic, public, private — would react in the event of an actual invasion.

I travel to the Philippines and HK yearly. Taiwan’s airport is probably the only one I observed where every “security guard” is armed with semi auto’s.

That would shake things up a little, just think one day here in the USA, we hear the tones indicating a test of the Emergency Broadcast System, instead this time the announcer says, THIS IS NOT A TEST, people would lose the sh*t....

I know how they feel, Saturday, Jan. 21, 2018, we were in Maui, HI.

News started pouring in that N. Korea had launched an ICBM our way.

I checked Fox and CNN, nothing.

I went through the checklist:

- Hawaii doesn't have its own launch warning system, so if National news isn't covering it, it isn't happening.

- N.K. hasn't proven guidance systems or Re-entry capability. (Career Field info)

As I meet people entering the Hotel shelter, I'm getting updates that nobody is confirming the "attack".

I call B.S. and try explaining the above to family and those around me.

Everybody would rather believe its the end, than consider its a false alarm.

Sound familiar?

If immediately after hearing, THIS IS NOT A TEST, Biden comes on to say anything, people would really sh*t their pants.

***Uhh, that’s bullshiite. There’s no such thing as induced independence. They either need to declare it outright or suffer the consequences.

Taiwan should threaten to destroy their assets if China invades — the chip fab factories. Raise them to the ground.

Heck, the manufacturing equipment is precision and is very sensitive is very easy to disrupt. Just destroy critical machines... machines that are manufactured outside of Taiwan and would have to be replaced at great expense and delay.

Hold the world’s chip production hostage if China threatens to invade.
