Hungary's pro-Putin PM Orban captures strong lead in vote

Early results from Hungary’s national election on Sunday showed a strong lead for the right-wing party of pro-Putin nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban as he seeks a fourth consecutive term.

With 43% of votes tallied, Orban’s Fidesz-led coalition had won 57% of the vote while a pro-European opposition coalition, United for Hungary, had 31%, according to the National Election Office.

Although vote counting was still underway, all signs pointed to a clear endorsement for Orban's populist style of governance.

The contest was expected to be the closest since Orban took power in 2010, thanks to Hungary’s six main opposition parties putting aside their ideological differences to form a united front against Fidesz. Voters were electing lawmakers to the country’s 199-seat parliament.

Yet even in his home district, opposition leader Peter Marki-Zay trailed the longtime Fidesz incumbent Janos Lazar by more than 11 points, with 74% of the votes counted there. It was a discouraging sign for the prime ministerial candidate who had promised to end to what he alleges is rampant government corruption and raise living standards by increasing funding to Hungary’s ailing health care and schools.

In a surprise performance, radical right-wing party Our Homeland Movement had garnered more than 6% of the vote, exceeding the 5% threshold needed to gain seats in parliament.

Opposition parties and international observers have noted structural impediments to defeating Orban, highlighting pervasive pro-government bias in the public media, the domination of commercial news outlets by Orban allies and a heavily gerrymandered electoral map.

Those were rhetorical questions. I’m not aware of any “pro-Putin” parties in Hungary, but there are people that are not fond of Soros and his ilk.

Tucker Carlson recently ran an extensive profile on Hungary and Orban. It was very positive on their defense of Hungarian culture and border defense. I particularly like how quick and simple was their treatment of illegal entrants. They were searched, fingerprinted, photographed and then escorted to a door back out of Hungary; no attorneys, lengthy legal appeals while in Hungary.

The narrative has been exposed. Any Nation-First country is an enemy of the US/EU oligarchs. This is Hungary, but it could also be Brazil or India.

Orban may have had close ties to Putin, but he is now critical of Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Sounds about right.

Pro-Putin or simply not pro-Globohomo?

According to Wiki, opposition leader Peter Marki-Zayhas describes himself as "a right-wing Christian" -- yet he also supports gay marriage and says that Jesus was left-wing. In fact, one of his campaign promises was the legalize gay marriage.

Strangely incongruent views for a "right-wing Christian."

The only way he’s pro-Putin is that he and his people share the same contempt of degenerate Western culture.

I think you hit the nail straight on by referring to the Western Culture or whatever is left of it as “Degenerate” Not that I am overly sensitive, but some of that crap what is going on and being allowed and tolerated is just way out of bounds.

Hungary still buys energy from Russia and will not allow weapons to be shipped into Ukraine.

This is the correct Hungary First approach.

He likes Poland. Poland is also a problem child in the EU, similar to Hungary.

Well, if Orban is Pro-Putin then so is Tucker. When you oppose Soros you are Pro-Putin. Trump is Pro-Putin, so are lots of Russians and Serbians, Even Cubans. Now is Putin a nice guy? No! Is he a monster? No. He is a ruthless dictator yes. But he is clearly Pro-Russia. Lots of ruthless leaders out there we must deal with. How will Biden deal with Putin if we must sign a treaty?

Just a very brief history of Hungary......

For millennia, Hungary has been invaded and taken over, for periods of time, by various other nations. But they have ALWAYS yearned for freedom and self rule. And at long last, they finally have it!

The last brutal takeover was by the USSR/stinking COMMIES, whom most Hungarians, whether they were born at that time, or not, loathe.

Just prior to that takeover, it was the Nazi, who, as we know, was working for as a teen, even though he was an Hungarian, with family roots in Judaism.Soros has also tried to do his dirty work inside of Hungary, to this day, which makes him a virulent enemy still.

The Muslim Ottoman Empire was yet another outside force that took over Hungary for a while and so, Muslims, from anywhere, are NOT welcome in Hungary today; thanks to Orban and rightly so, since he knows what these ILLEGALS do in other European countries.

Victor Orban loves Hungary, her people, her culture, and that's WHY the damned lefties and Globalists hate him.
