Hitting Disney where it hurts: Florida GOP threatens to strip Walt Disney World of its right to build anything it wants inside its theme park as feud over 'Don't Say Gay' bill escalates

Some Republican legislators in Florida are considering punishing Walt Disney World for taking a public stand against the so-called 'Don't Say Gay' bill by repealing a 55-year law that allows the company to govern itself.

Florida House Rep. Spencer Roach tweeted on Wednesday that lawmakers held two meetings this week to discuss revoking the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act, which he said 'allows Disney to act as its own government.'

Spencer, a Republican, added: 'If Disney wants to embrace woke ideology, it seems fitting that they should be regulated by Orange County.'

The 1967 act, which was signed by then-Gov Claude Kirk, a Republican, created the Reedy Creek Improvement District, which encompasses about 25,000 acres in Orange and Osceola counties.

The district is governed by its 19 landowners, the biggest of them being Disney World. It is responsible for overseeing land use and providing essential public services, including fire protection, emergency medical services, water services, electricity, sanitation. The district also operates and maintains all public roads and bridges.

Business can’t force the government, they can only persuade voters to change the government.

After the fact, when all these LGBT type activists decided that this bill was a crime against humanity, that’s when Disney Corporate decided that they should make it Corporate policy to oppose and work for repeal of the law. >>> And now the law and its associated deviant behavior can be discussed in grades k to 3 as current events.

“I know you are are false-posting troll!”

Wow. For a third grade education you almost got that grammar right.

You’re not adult enough to admit you are wrong about the bill. Typical New York liberal claiming to be a Texan because it makes you feel macho.

Unfortunately, Disney has interest from worldwide citizens and will always prosper. I think Florida should revoke Disney’s self-management privilege.

“Dont threaten them, Florida, take the power and control now. while you have it”

Good counsel.

Walt Disney was welcomed to Florida when he promised his company would be a good corporate citizen.

Disney is dead and the company is no longer a good corporate citizen. This changes everything.

Disney peddles porn. They need to be broken into bits if for no other reason than to send a warning to other woke companies; Florida doesn't want your corrupt values.

The bill, titled Parental Rights in Education, states that lessons about sexual orientation, straight, LGBT, transgender, pansexuals, etc are banned outright in kindergarten through third grade. It also prohibits lessons in other grades unless they are “age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate.”

The measure, which would give parents the right to sue school districts, awaits Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature. It is scheduled to go into effect on July 1.

The bill’s supporters say it strengthens parental rights by preventing teachers and school staffers from withholding information about gender issues from parents.

The LGBT have lied about the bill calling it don’t say gay bill. They want the little kids, even kindergardner’s to plant seeds of their ideology. They’ve already got parents who are allowing their babies to choose when able, what they are and not identify them as boy or girl.

Little kids shouldn’t have to be bombarded at that early age with talk of sex, sexual identity, and genders.

Legality might be where its says discussion of any sexual orientation, that would include straight kids, not just outright ban of just gay/transgender kids. No where in the bill does it straight out ban just gays/transgenders, etc.

I was referring to the legality of the self-governance by Disney. Rather incredible.

Why do activists want to discuss these matters with such young kids? We should ask that question.

It is so they can brainwash them. That is how these mental defectives 'reproduce'. Brainwashing and sex crimes produces people with mental illness.

The Twitter trolls are calling the Florida bill “fascist” authoritarianism; actually, the fascism has been in place, apparently, since 1967: conferring special corporatist (fascist) power to a private-sector entity via incondign government favoritism.

Disney’s special legal powers, exemptions, and tax breaks have long been a sore point with Florida’s newspapers. On reflection, they will support any such move while carping about the reason why it is being considered. Most likely though, Disney’s board and major stockholders will intervene, perhaps even to curb the company’s turn toward woke lunacy.

Nice try. I am not defending anyone. I am merely suggesting that if you don’t want your country breaking down into a complete disaster, your government should stop acting like they’ve never won before.

You control the state. Now try getting a grip on the message. Because this law sounds stupid.
