Oscars co-host Wanda Sykes slammed the Academy, calling their actions 'gross' for allowing Will Smith to remain in the theater Sunday night after he slapped Chris Rock, a display she said made her feel 'physically ill.'

'It was sickening,' Sykes said in a televised interview on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show. 'I felt physically ill and I'm still a little traumatized by it.'

Smith, 53, stunned the audience at Dolby Theatre and millions of television viewers at Sunday night's Oscars when he marched onto the stage and slapped Rock, 57, after the comedian made a bald joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has spoken publicly about losing her hair due to alopecia.

When Smith returned to his seat, the 'King Richard' star yelled at Rock, 'Keep my wife's name out your (expletive) mouth.'

Less than an hour later, Smith won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Richard Williams - father of tennis legends Serena and Venus.

Gee… I remember when Frank Sinatra slapped Dean Martin for making a joke … oh… wait… never mind.

Different time…

And BETTER people…

The really interesting thing is that he was asked to leave and refused.

So we will see how this plays out in the public.

I have seen a lot of claims that the Smith family is filled with Hubris. This would seem to fit that.

As a co-host Wanda Sykes certainly had the option to refuse to go back onstage until Will Smith was ejected. Sometimes privilege gets in the way of principles, I guess.

I don’t discount that they could be lying to try to prevent being sued. We will see if Smith’s PR people agree

Sykes, as with many of the other Hollywood leftists, is likely just putting her finger in the air as to land on the politically favorable winds of the incident.

Immediately after, the knee-jerks on the left, showed their bigotry of low expectations by joining in a standing ovation of Smith.

The knee-jerks on the right, screamed “Staged! Fake! Setup!”.

It took three full days for the dust to settle and the reality is shifting and people are realigning. Sykes and others now feel safe to opine.

I’m just I didn’t watch it or know anything about it. It was obviously done to increase sagging ratings. It worked!

“All the people I dispise are critiszing Smith.”

Well ... you swerved into one of my pet peeves. Not directing this at you necessarily ... but ... I don’t decide where I stand on issues based on who is for it or who is against it.

I would like to believe that is generally true for most FReepers. It must be ... as getting us all to agree on something sometimes is like herding cats. :-)

But it wasn’t fake -

Academy has responded saying they asked him to leave and he yelled “I’m not goin!” Rather than see further outbursts they let him remain

However they are meeting to deptermine “punishment’ and if or not he will keep the Osacar or not.

the fact that they asked him to leave might help in a lawsuit but the fact remains they could have removed him just like they would if a seat filler had jumped up and smacked someone on stage. It was a unknown environment for Rock who had no idea if Smith had gone completely nuts and would attack him again.

“UPDATE4:12 PM PT — Sources who were present at the Oscars tell TMZ, the 2 Academy officials who told Will Smith to leave were David Rubin, the President of the Academy, and Dawn Hudson, the CEO. We’re told they were “furious” at Will, and there was plenty of “yelling” and “heated conversations” backstage with Will’s reps after the incident. As one source put it, the Academy officials were “apoplectic.” We’re also told they told him to leave shortly after the slap.”

What is it with these actresses saying they were traumatized? Are they that delicate?

Will Smith was asked to leave the Oscars but REFUSED, Academy reveals as Board of Governors rule actor broke code of conduct and say disciplinary proceedings have been initiated

Did not know that. Interesting.

so now it becomes what do you do to the guy who committed a Battery on live TV AND refused your instructions to leave.

He should be thrown out of the group and his Oscar revoked. They wont do the second but they might do the first.

this is a pretty good rap about the new circumstances...and the fact that the battery will live in infamy gives Rock more to add to the damage category

The Academy is now saying that they did ask him to leave.

Apparently, they didn't insist.
