A South Carolina mom-of-three had both arms amputated to the shoulder, lost part of her colon and is fighting for her life after she was attacked by three pit bulls on Monday.
Kyleen Waltman, 38, was mauled by the animals when she was walking home on Ball Road, a dirt and gravel path lined with trees, around 10:30 a.m. on Monday in Honea Path, about 80 miles northwest of Columbia.
'She was walking home from her boyfriend’s house to her momma’s, and as far as I know, the dogs just jumped on her and you can actually see in the road if you go down there, where she fought the dog, trying to fight them off,' Tanya Gilmer, Waltman’s best friend, told WGN Radio.
Avery Presley, who was driving his tractor to feed his cows down the road, saw Waltman under attack in a ditch and was able to scare the dogs away by firing his gun into the air, police said. Severely injured Waltman was then airlifted to Prisma Health Greenville Hospital.
'I ain't no hero,' Presley told the Greenwood Index Journal. 'I still feel guilty about not getting there earlier. I always carry a gun for safety.'
As of Saturday, Walter is in stable condition, her family told DailyMail.com.
Two days after the attack, dog owner Justin Minor was arrested and charged with three counts of owning a dangerous animal that attacked and injured a human, rabies control violation and dangerous animal not permitted beyond premises unless restrained, according to The State.
The owning of a dangerous animal charge carries a penalty of $5,000 or a sentence of three years in prison.

I have a somewhat distant cousin (2nd or 3rd) who even though she is a conservative like me she rarely talks to me or puts a like my FB posts. I can’t really understand why, except she is a big Pit Bull owner and we had a disagreement about 5 years ago over another of the many Pit attacks on some kid.
I think she possibly is actually holding a 5 year grudge at me over her damn stinky dogs. Maybe all Pit owners are not like that but more than most others I’d bet.
Her injuries sound simply unspeakable! I cannot imagine them removing her esophagus but it sounds like that’s next.
Never fight fair.
In the bad old days, one or more of the neighbors would solve that menacing dog problem with extreme prejudice, if you take my meaning.
There is no way these dogs should exist around humans. So sad.
Prayers up for this lady, and also for Mr. Presley who could have saved her. It sounds like he did everything he could.
I saw some people selling pit pups out of the bed of a truck even today, here in my hometown.
Vicious dogs were actually foremost in my mind as I made the decision to carry a handgun.
Stories like this make it tempting to change to shot loads in some way or another. Maybe one of those derringers...

Note that there are untrained dogs that do not react to the sounds of gunfire.
Shooting into the air removed one round from his handgun. If the dogs had turned on him, he would have one less round to act with.

I have four dogs. Various breeds all considered the calm and friendly type and three of the four are small. They are animals. They are trained and socialized, but they are animals.
The hound does hound rings, the Aussie herds, the dachshund goes in holes and chases rodents.
Yes…breeds matter.

Some breeds like people more prone I guess , and some people don’t train their dogs properly as well I suppose. Always tragic and often preventable. Very sad.
