I don't see a problem with the supposedly missing first letter. It looks a lot like the above, but I'm not handwriting analyst (not a biologist either, but I do know what woman is).
IDK if this is real or not, but I will contribute the one thing I can.
On the signature block, the “V” from “Vladimir” is missing. (It would look like a “B” in our alphabet.) Compare the Russian letters in “Vladimir” with those in “Vladimirovich”
Perhaps it was cut off in the image, or perhaps there is some other reason.
