Somewhat related to the slide on this thread about casting from a laptop, I have a tech question.

I need to get internet service for when I am working on my father’s house. I will be spending enough time up there that I will “work from home” on my job from there. I cancelled the $200 month phone, cable, internet package because I won’t be there enough to watch enough tv to make that worthwhile and I am getting rid of all the tv’s, as they are old.

I don’t want to sign a contract for a year. I’m hoping to have the house sold in six months.

Does anyone know of a good pay-as-you-go or month-to-month internet service?

Thank you.

Most cable companies will hook you up on a month to month basis.

A possible option:
T-Mobile sells a t-9 portable, rechargable wifi for about $110, which is about the size of a cell phone. Packages are $30 for 20g and $45 for 30g per month. It has good speed. It doesn’t have enough range to light up the whole house and needs to be with about 15 feet for connection, but certainly does what it should. streeming movies play with no lag, or freeze.. Can be used for laptop, ipad, tv and anything that uses wifi signal to connect to the net.

...that is all

See if you can get Starlink. Take it with you when you leave.

I have a Tmobile 5g wifi router that works great. No contract and $50 dollars a month. Plugs into an outlet for power. Its about the size of a large Quaker Oats oatmeal can. You can move it, take it with you, anywhere you get a Tmobile cell signal.

You can use your cell phone as WiFi hot spot...check with your cell phone company...sometimes is free.

I’m behind on the thread, but I was going to recommend adding a Myfi to your cell phone service. I see others have recommended that also. I have one, it’s a device smaller than my cell phone. I keep saying I’m going to get rid of it since I’m only working from home, but every time I say that, my power goes out and I use it for emergency wifi. It works every time. I think it’s an additional $25 a month on my mobile bill and it works from wherever I can get a cell phone signal. I would not recommend using your cell phone as a spot wifi. My experience with that has been horrible. I can stream video from the portable Myfi, but I can’t even open YouTube if I’m using my cell phone hot spot.

Had another thought on your internet issue. If there is a close neighbor with decent wi-fi maybe offer to share their internet bill while you’re there.
