Alaska U.S. Rep. Don Young has died, former aides said on Friday. Details were not immediately available.
Young, a Republican, had served in Congress since 1973, when he was sworn in after winning a special election.
Young was the longest-serving member of the U.S. House, was in his 25th term and running for a 26th.
He was his state’s sole member of the House for more than three-fourths of the time Alaska has been a state.

Successors are not appointed to the house. There has to be an election.
R.I.P., Rep. Young.
RIP
Young was old.
Will ranked choice voting flip this seat?
Part of The Steal? Don’t know either way.

I'm going to hazard a guess here: Old age.
RIP Congressman. Thanks for your long, dedicated service.
I expect Democrats are going to be in a cat fight to see who runs for his seat. No idea who the Republican candidate will be. At least the sordid ranked voting that was foisted upon us will not go into effect before the special election.
“Will ranked choice voting flip this seat?”

Oh, yuk… I forgot about that “gift” bestowed for Murkowski’s benefit but will pollute other offices as well.
That doesn't go into effect until the August primary and a special election will be held long before that.
You are correct:
Article 1, section 2, clause 4:
“When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.”
... depends on the state...
No, it doesn’t.
See post #13.
No. It does not. Senators can be appointed. Representatives cannot.
Read the Constitution.
In Congress for almost 50 years.
I hope his soul will Rest In Peace. But can we stop electing Royalty?
25 terms THIS is what is wrong with government, I don’t care if he is on our side!!!
What are your thoughts on this man and his service AlaskaErik?
