Alaska U.S. Rep. Don Young has died, former aides said on Friday. Details were not immediately available.
Young, a Republican, had served in Congress since 1973, when he was sworn in after winning a special election.
Young was the longest-serving member of the U.S. House, was in his 25th term and running for a 26th.
He was his state’s sole member of the House for more than three-fourths of the time Alaska has been a state.

If someone is doing an effective job, why limit them?
There's a reason why Young served 50 years in Congress. His constituents liked him, obviously.
All term limits is going to do is make them an effective lame-duck and they can't get anything done.
If you don't like someone vote them out.
25th term ??????
So he was around when everything turned to sh*t?
And they kept him in office???
Upon further research I find that a special election has to be held no sooner than 60 days and no later than 90 days. Either way, the insidious ranked voting will not be in effect yet.
I would rather they not get anything done...
His votes over the past few years had me concerned to the point that I was actually considering whether or not to vote for him this November.
RIP.
This could provide an opening for Sarah Palin. Love to see the heads explode.
RIP.
I guess I’m wrong. Thanks for the correction
I must being mixing them up, but wasn’t there another Alaskan Congressman or Senator that died a few years ago?
Nobody should be sucking on the government teat that long. Don’t care whose side he was on.
RIP.
Great man and will be missed here in the state. Personally helped out my father-in-law was having issues with the federal government. He won’t be forgotten in this household…
Suddenly?
Will ranked choice voting flip this seat?
In order for Rank Choice to apply, no candidate would have received 50% of the vote. Not sure if the two non major party candidates have to wherewithal to keep the Republican under 50%.

I actually thought Don Young had already announced he would not seek reelection. I must be thinking of another geriatric member.
Oh no!. My congressman too. I wonder who will replace him?
Nick Begich, back in 1972.
Representative Young was a good man. RIP.

Great man, good friend, he will be missed.
I bet Obama had him killed.
