My aunt and I are doing well.

I finally feel normal. The Covid fatigue and brain fog has lifted. I had to go to an attorney to get help with my father’s estate stuff—get the paperwork done so that I can be declared administrator. Apparently, he never got around to doing an updated will after my mother passed away and he moved to Ohio. But I’m an only child and the attorney says probate shouldn’t be too bad. He was a middle class guy and had middle class stuff.

The court in the county where he lived is one of the better courts in the state in terms of the judge wanting to move through simple cases quickly.

The big pain is not being able to stay at the house and not having sufficient time to clean enough stuff out due to this work project. I need to clean it of various piddly stuff so I can bring in cleaners for heavier duty removal and cleaning. I got a little bit of money from insurance now so I can hire the cleaners and pay ongoing utilities and such.

Since I have a work-from-home job, I can work a lot from his home once I make it clean enough to do that.

My aunt is feeling restless and is eager to work on the house with me. She’s been handling all her own stuff now, including going to the grocery store and bank alone, for a few weeks now.

I miss my dad and get sad when I see people out with their parents who are obviously older than my dad was (79), but the reality is he did not take care of himself like these people did and my aunt does.

I feel somewhat guilty for perhaps encouraging him in his eating by letting him take me out to dinner so much, but I just could not stay in that house—it is too unhealthy. But in many instances, he ate better when we were out than he would have otherwise.

He had plenty of money to get it cleaned and hire ongoing help. He spent it instead on acquiring more stuff that is a problem for me now. He did give a lot to charity too. But another person would have realized the house was too much for them and would have downsized and moved closer to family or worked on getting into a house with their adult child that they both could have lived in, such as one with an in law suite. My aunt is talking more and more about that sort of arrangement and the S.O. hasn’t balked at it.

I offered many times to take vacation and help him get the place in better order, but he would have had to have been able to part with a lot to make that happen and hire people to help because the cleaning needed is beyond a normal person’s ability.

I gave up offering in the last couple years. I feel somewhat guilty about that too.

But a person has to be able to make changes.

My aunt had me haul off a whole bunch of stuff of hers to Goodwill because she wants to simplify and not have to worry about me having to get rid of a lot. There is more to go, but is Christmas stuff and they won’t take it until the fall.

She’s not messy, though. She just wants to start the process of downsizing.

I’m going to seriously limit the number of boxes of stuff I keep of my parents’ stuff. Too much stuff just causes stress and gets in the way of relationships.

I’m going to go through my own stuff and get rid of a fair amount.

I like the Mad Magazine History Test:

The Panic of 1837 happened because (multiple choice)

...and the correct answer was

"They found out it was really 1938!"

INTP here. “The Architect.” Totally fits. I work in a creative field and am an artist, but nothing gets me more jazzed than working on a research project. I love libraries and archives and the smell of old books.

It reminded me of being a fad that people or companies tried to use to categorize people in an attempt to understand or work with them. IMO it’s premise was that one’s personality was “written” in stone. In my experience people can change as they get older or gain more life experience. A young introvert may become an extrovert as they get older or vice versa. I remember in my travails companies, especially contract temp agencies or consulting companies, using this test when it was the new “thing” in the business world.

A better book on business personalities IMO is “Snakes in Suits: Understanding and Surviving the Psychopaths in Your Office” by Dr. Babiak and Dr. Hare. I’m jaded about the corporate world, but this book describes many bosses and upper management personnel I crossed paths with when I worked in the corporate environment.

I was forced to take the Myers-Briggs on a few different occasions. I forget my results, but it seems to me they were different at different points in my life.

Looks like the test nailed it.

Compared to the list of grievances against King George in the Declaration of Independence, we’re overdue for a reckoning.

I have found the introvert-extrovert thing is dependent on where you live.

I would say I am more of an introvert. I’m an only child and my parents were never social people.

But when I lived in NJ I had more friends and hung out with different groups of people and had a pretty good social life.

I have had trouble making friends in Ohio. People really are not that friendly. I am always uncomfortable talking to new people here whereas in NJ you can start talking to someone on line at the post office or at a bar and feel as if you have known them for years.

I can’t go back to NJ for job reasons, cost of living, and blue state politics. I didn’t make my yearly visit the year before Covid hit because I took another trip instead. There was no point in going back during Covid. People there told me to stay away because it was miserable. I should have invited them to visit me in Ohio so they could go to restaurants.

I won’t go this year due to needing the time off for estate stuff. By the time I get back there, if I ever do, it will be something like five years since the last time. I’m sure it will be very strange.

I'm so glad to hear you and your aunt are finally coming out of the coof! It seems to have quite a lengthy recovery time for some.

Have you thought about hiring an estate auction to come in and see if there's anything they can sell? We did that with my uncle's stuff. He was a hoarder and addicted to thrift shopping and "junking." His place was packed to the rafters. (Example: he had over 40 walking canes and never used a cane.) But he had a good eye for antiques (weird stuff, too, that we never realized was valuable). There were multiple auctions, but I think the total came in around $20,000-30,000. He had some very pricey mid-century modern furniture pieces that we knew would sell high (Eames, etc.), but then really strange stuff like antique wooden Bocci balls that were so old they were cracked that sold for $1200.

The key is finding an auction house that knows what you have and knows who to market it to. We were lucky in that my other uncle ran in the same "junking" circles and knew who to call.

If you go to the .gov site and type in NESARA, you will get the law that was passed and forced to sign by Bill Clinton. It was to go into effect on October 1, 2001 BUT because of 9/11, it was forgotten about. That’s all I remember.

I have thought about the auction house, but I don’t know that there is enough “good” stuff to make that worthwhile. I will certainly ask someone to take a look.

The problem is that he collected stuff that he thought would be valuable but really isn’t— ceramic Snow Village houses, Precious Moments, Jim Shore, Thomas Kinkade, Fenton, Bradford Exchange. The better older furniture in the family I will keep. A lot of the furniture that I won’t keep and that is not bad enough to just throw out is stuff my parents bought when they got married and not an antique. I will have a used furniture bank for poor people take it if no one will buy it for a few bucks.

He has model railroad stuff in the basement that I will get around to getting quotes on as one of the last things I tackle. I’m more concerned with the stuff upstairs. There’s stuff of mine in the basement to get rid of, stuff of his that is only fit for a dumpsters, and stuff not worth anything but in good enough shape to donate to the place in town that raises money for hospice care for the elderly or to sell at a garage sale if I feel like attempting that first and then giving the remainder away.

I’m no expert on this stuff by any stretch. I was recently asked to take the test so I’ve spent a little time looking into it further.

In addition to the aforementioned ENJT, my guess is your four other results are:

ESTP
ISTJ
ESTJ
ESFP

All leadership types who are detail-oriented.

It’s supposed to be a gold-backed cryptocurrency or something, where one day “they” (who, aliens?) will flip a switch and eliminate everyone’s debt.

Darn! I've got to get me some debt.

Just thinking outside the box a bit....We've all got debt simply by being American citizens we are on the hook for paying back the trillions upon trillion of federal debt.

Maybe when this currency flip occurs it's that debt that disappears. Americans tax liabilities would decrease immediately and we could start accruing wealth, only this time, we would be more aware (awake) and jealously guard it from those who would take it via legislative actions.
