“It is a great artistic loss for the Met and for opera.” Those words from General the Metropolitan Opera Manager Peter Gelb makes it sound like soprano Anna Netrebko has died or lost her voice in some accident. In reality, Netrebko was cancelled for failing to denounce Vladimir Putin. As with the criminalization of support for Putin in some countries, the termination of Netrebko is an attack on free speech. It is perfectly bizarre for the Met to stand against tyranny by attacking free speech, the very right that combats tyranny in all forms. This is not just the day that the music died for Netrebko, it is the day that free speech died at the Met.
Opera? For once, there may actually be some literal pearl-clutching.
“When you read about historical atrocities like FDR’s internment of all people of Japanese descent, you wonder how it could’ve been tolerated.
Then you live through an event like this — institutions holding all Russians responsible for Putin’s acts — and you see how it happens.”- Glenn Greenwald
You just can’t sack people for failing to condemn anybody.

Evidently you can at the Metropolitan Opera. Does she have a civil suit?
All these Libtards supporting Ukraine make me wonder what the heck is really going on

It does make one think. Then again, they acted like patriots immediately after 9/11 It didn’t last long though.
Gelb is a schmuck.

The best response would be to demand that they, the MET management, in public print, denounce Putin, wagering the lives of their families on the hope that he does not take it personally and retaliate.
And if they *really* mean it, they should take their family on an extended trip to Russia, and say it *there*.
Otherwise, they are hypocrites, asking her to endanger the lives of *her* family members to make *themselves* sound virtuous.
No pearl clutching at the sight of a near-Confederate flag?
Good for you, that you've learned to put a standard disclaimer on your independent critical thought. Excellent idea lately, around here.
As a matter of fact you don't mind if I swipe it for my tagline for awhile. Thank you. :)
That’s a good point. At first we were just silent out of politeness, then when we want to use our “right” we find that we don’t have it anymore.
I see the same thing trying to happen with firearms. I “have the right” but don’t think it would go over well if I brought my AR to town for the day!
And even at that, it's not what she said that they didn't like, it's what she didn't say that they didn't like. Liberal fascists.
No its not legal. Should be sued into bankruptcy.

Join in at the “two minute hate” or lose your livelyhood.
Is China funding the Met? Sounds like the “social score keeping” the Chinese use and the crats want here.
Beautiful woman until she got fat. Her stage versions of “Meine Lippen sie Kussen so heiss” on YouTube is worth watching. The version where she kisses the lead violinist and bursts out laughing is a hoot.
This, while libs are all about separating Church and State...
