No, Russia knows it’s not going to completely dissolve NATO. But what it wants to do is get NATO to remove all defensive weapons systems from the former Warsaw Pact countries that are now in NATO; then it will demand that those former Warsaw Pact countries are dropped from NATO.

I am blessed to work from home and only needing to go to the office downtown for big events or preparation for big events every other month or so. Other people deal with the daily grind. Unfortunately, sometimes I have to drive 2 or 3 hours to other counties when big events occur.
Russia does this every year. Its a wargame. A pretend wargame, much like the U.S. does in rural Carolinas.

This is very different. All Russian diplomats are out. Tanks, air defenses and Russian national guard deployed. This is a well planned invasion. No signs it will cool off. Only escalation so far. Biden is f’d because diplomatic options won’t work.
He seems okay now, though I did not catch his Covid episodes. A shame to hear that.

Biden just conceded the fall of Ukraine. Said he would only defend NATO countries.
However the point remains that the Japanese were and acted in a Dishonorable Way as Diplomats and Statesmen.
It is always good to remember that Diplomacy and Statesmanship can be Honorable or Dishonorable, ...

I think it’s all actually very simple. What Putin wants is a guarantee that Ukraine, at least the main part of it, will never join NATO.
I think it’s a deal Trump would make, in exchange for Putin recognizing NATO’s legitimacy in the countries where it already is in, plus allowing Western Ukraine to decide whether it breaks away and is eligible to join NATO.
I don’t see Putin really wanting more than that. He doesn’t want Poland or even the Baltics, as some suggest. But to him, and indeed for many Russians, Ukraine is the hill to die on.
