Well, duh. That’s why absorbing “free” sunlight costs a LOT of money. You’re paying for the solar cells and their maintenance, but much more for the energy storage (which electric cars actually help with), the distribution networks... But the system expanded proportionally more in the 1960s than electric cars will make it expand in the 2020s and 2030s. It can be done, and for less money each year. Hell, the REAL secret the environmentalists don’t want you to know is the REAL reason why we’re building electrical power as slowly as we are: because the last guy to adopt solar power pays the least for it.
The internet lends itself to black-or-white, all-or-nothing debate. What’s hard to understand is that for 50 years (or more), the left has been making ridiculous, outrageous lies about solar power... but with the price reductions coming so steadily, what were once lies are now true. And no, it’s not because of government subsidies which chased good technology out with bad technology; it’s because the same human creativity which meant we did NOT run out of fossil fuels in the 1980s also means that solar technology will always get cheaper and cheaper.
If the US completely swapped over to EVs automobiles, do we have enough current grid capacity to power them all?
And I said until those regulations are changed. They can be changed, but are their enough people in DC with the will to change them?

BUT - this is the same argument as the Chinese Communist Virus vaccine/mask mandates - all kinds of arguments which leave out anything the proponents might not like.

And we’re not ignorant, we are very forward-thinking. We are thinking forward to the time some Obama clone decides to mandate a $12/gallon tax so all the poor kids who were orphaned by an evil ICE accident can go to college.
You drive what you want, I don’t care. But this ain’t checkers, it’s chess, and the Dims are very happy to use anyone as a pawn. The moral-superiority is not in MY camp, it’s among those who think Gloabal Warming is caused by my car.

I am still driving a sporty gas guzzler I bought during the the financial crisis. I filled up today at ~$4.20 for premium gas. That is about what I was paying for premium gas back in 2009. According to the BLS inflation calculator, the cost per gallon would be $5.60 in inflation adjusted dollars today.
I would like to see a carbon foot print.
The moon does not generate much power. And winds die down often here in Florida. It was very hot and muggy by my house when the last hurricane came through. But when the hurricane actually passed by the area it was nice cool air, and we sat on the patio enjoying the cooler air. I am 15 miles from the beach so get only lot of wind, and no structural damage to the house during hurricanes.
We all should just calm down about electric vs gasoline.
Why? Because we should realize and acknowledge that most likely, these vehicles will be niche vehicles. Each may have their place. Electric for short regular commuting and many errand trips, gas for rugged and vacation.
This reminds me of the shopping trends. Everyone tends to go ALL IN for some new fad. They throw out the old altogether, only to abandon the new later. Indoor Malls basically went crazy so town centers and strip malls were ignored and none built for a long time. Then people realize indoor mall ain’t all that! They’re dying. They are not the solution to everything shopping. However they DO have their place. Now they’re building more strip malls and stand-alones and fake town centers.
The key sometimes is to recognize that different types have a place, just that it shouldn’t be 100%.
And you always lose energy in the transfer.

Well yes, you always lose energy. You can never keep it within any system. That’s why perpetual motion machines are impossible.

Yup. And electrical usage is 40% lower at night in July. And we’re discussing putting mega-capacity batteries in people’s driveways. By the way, cool air is still great for solar power; Peru would kick ass in solar-power generation atop those ten-thousand-feet-high plateaus. The only problem with cool is it’s often associated with cloud cover.
