Personally as a wacky libertarian I have always been wary of the cops, their powers and scope for abuse etc. but I know not everyone here shared these views however I sense this could be changing...
BUMP
I came to the conclusion about a year ago that the police are not on the side of the people; most police officers don’t give a shit about their oaths to the Constitution and will side with elected tyrants for money. Also in recent years leftist cities have lowered pyschological standards for new cops thus there are now many more sociopaths and psychopaths on the streets with power, and that’s not a good combination for order and good policing. Also, that was done on purpose for the sole reason of making police departments brown shirt enforcers for the communist democrat party at the local level.
The DEMOCRATS RUIN EVERYTHING THEY TOUCH!!
You can’t have a police state without police.
I used to be mostly pro-cop but I got arrested for resisting arrest in 2020 when I tried to report 3 violent felonies against me, the cop was a d1*k, I reacted to that and he arrested me for made-up misdemeanors rather than pursuing those 3 violent felonies. All charges were dropped against me. I have video of the 3 felonies so now it’s time to sue San JOse, CA for violating my civil rights.
I know not everyone here shared these views however I sense this could be changing...
***FR used to have a very heavy handed bootlicker brigade but they are silent of late. It’ll take a decade before they acknowledge how wrong they were, but by then it’ll be pretty much too late for all the damage done.
I haven’t been pro police since Trump ran for office and watched the cops stand around with their thumbs up their nose while his supporters were being attacked
A lot of conservatives act as if a large police presence is a good thing. I don't see anything "conservative" about that at all. The defining characteristic of a free, law-abiding society isn’t a major police presence -- it's an armed citizenry.
I live in a small town and what our force has to face everyday is disturbing: o.ds, abuse of children, of wives, stealing and so on. Not to mention the b.s. calls. i.e. someone’s dog is loose etc. Local police are the only thing that stands between a civil existence and anarchy. I’m not going to through the baby out with the bathwater. However, the county and state police have become militant. I do try to see the things they have to confront because our society is heading into sh*thole status and they are out there in the middle of it. But what happened in Canada was disgusting. I remember one of the Canadians telling the line of cops that ‘he backed them and supported them when they were under fire from Trudeau’ and he asked them, ‘how can you turn on your supporters like this?
Not just Canada. We have been watching them in action in places like Australia and the UK too, and not just in connection with protests. They have seemed all too happy to arrest people for things like not wearing a mask outdoors, or for being outdoors too long, or for gathering for church services, when they could easily look the other way and go about their business policing real criminals.
The police are necessary. And limitations and oversight of them is necessary. Properly managed with limits and oversights and rights and the whole shebang, they can be a force for good. But this in Ottawa is anything but that ideal.
Social contract has been used to wipe Brandeau’s arse with. Have fun with that/irony
Many of those who find jobs in law enforcement seek power over others and the permission to abuse that power when the opportunity arises.
Here is the lesson:
Blind allegiance to ANY group is childish and naïve.
If we truly believe in individual liberty, then we should treat every case individually, not collectively.
The police are frankly just the ‘gang’ in charge and thats it.
Because Joey was a total moron.
I am not making this up.
Depends. Are they a member of a union? Unionization seems to turn people thug like. You become a member of a club that’s getting paid well and going to get paid well for the rest of your life. Your livelihood until the day you die becomes pretty important and you start to think people who aren’t set up for life are pretty stupid and beneath you.
As LEO’s and military retire and / or forced out with mandates, they will be replaced with immigrants.
Thefbidoj are not the US policemen.
Canadians, both cops and citizens are sheep and most are good comrades, the truckers being the exception to the rule.
I fished in Canada for over a quarter of a century, and had several sales offices there in the 90s.
After 9/11 during one one of my fishing trips, the way the canucks reacted to the terrorists was sickening.
In both Ottawa and Montreal they were actually rooting for the mooselimbs, not everyone, but more than not.
I vowed that was going to be my last visit to Canada, and haven't been back since, neither business nor pleasure.
To answer your question, hell yes, I'm still pro-police and anti-bad guys.
Are you now for the punks and rioters?
Just because you agree with their cause, doesn't make their methods right.
And because cops in US cities were prevented from enforcing our laws in the summer of 2020 doesn't make them the bad guys.
I am pro-police, in terms of recognizing the need for law enforcement in American society. I also believe, for multiple reasons, that smaller, local government is preferable to national, one-size-fits-all government - something to consider, perhaps, as one of our major political parties seeks to defund the police at the local and State levels, while expanding police powers at the federal level...
Becoming jackbooted thugs are a sure way to get the left to fund your departments…
