Burger King removes Whopper from discount menu Burger chain's parent company, Restaurant Brands International, plans to raise menu prices

Burger King is removing its iconic Whopper sandwich from its discount menu, and its parent company plans to raise prices across the board to offset higher cost

Given inflationary pressures, Tom Curtis, the president of Burger King's North America operations, said on an earnings call Tuesday that the burger chain lifted "some price caps on some selected items" and "removed Whopper from our core discount" menu.

However, he acknowledged that the burger – a quarter-pound flame-grilled beef patty – is its "strongest brand equity" that is core to its growth.

With that in mind, the brand will still look for an "opportunity for some incremental discounting there in the future, but it won't be every day," he added.

Moving forward, Burger King will be "purposeful and targeted when we choose to promote this iconic asset," Curtis said.

Meanwhile, Curtis noted that the customers should expect to see additional price increases in 2022 due to "the level of commodity cost and labor inflation."

Restaurant Brands International CEO José Cil said the company "saw sequential improvements in each brand and around the world, including notable growth at Tim Hortons Canada and Burger King U.S." throughout the last three months of 2021. RBI is the parent company of Burger King and Tim Hortons.

Still, he said during an earnings call Tuesday that its brands have "not been immune" to staffing challenges and inflationary pressures that are hitting the entire industry.

"We're hyper-focused on alleviating near-term pressures by driving sales and traffic in conjunction with recommending staffing initiatives and pricing strategies," he said.

The antique/classic car market prices have been taking off the past few years, those old wheels would be in demand.

Get well so you can get back working on that Jeep. I’m waiting for the weather to break to start working on mine again.

They will downsize the patty.
Put 1 small tomato and 1 pickle
And still charge $4.95 for the burger only.

Right before the internal plumbing blowout, I was trying to line up some body parts for my Willys jeep.

It will be a long time before I can lift much of anything. The budget gets me with the bills and some supplies I buy.

My Willys number one problem is the body tub. It’s in at best fair condition. There would be a lot of welding and patchwork the powder coat crowd will have to do. I can live with a few flaws here and there.

Eventually, I’ll get them out to it for an estimate.

There are those aftermarket kits. I’ve seen one and they are cheap looking and feeling. Almost a Harbor Frieght type thing. Most take a fair amount of fixing.

There is the pricey option. A place in Ohio buys those bodies and gets them ready. Those are about double.

All of that is for some day.

The price war between competing fast food chains has worked well for breakfast items; I’m near McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, even White Castle...

Unhealthy but cheap; asked this morning if Wendys had a 2/$4 deal, and when they didn’t I got two sausage biscuits for $1.59 each (even cheaper).

I don’t know if Wendys still does the 4 for (More than) 4 here. I won’t buy because you can’t sub the fries and they are just awful at Wendy’s. I used to eat there all the time. The prices got too high, the quantity too small even before Covid.
I don’t really see much competition going on between the fast food here. Back in the day Wendys was better than all of them. Not anymore.

There seems to be plenty of business around.
In my little burg there is McDonalds, Burger King, Arbys, White Castle, Hardees, SteakNShake, Wendys, FiveGuys, and Culvers within a mile or so for beef, plus KFC, TacoBell, and PandaExpress.

The 4 for $4 was a cheap way to get filled up; not the tastiest, but it worked (and I believe it is still offered). BK one-upped them with a 5 for $4 (it included a cookie); I don’t know if that is still around. I do think they’ve all kept prices down on value menus; buying any combo is much more expensive.

Right; I think their price competition is keeping inflation at bay (at least for now) for the value menus.

The flyer I got in the mail, yesterday, shows a Whopper meal with a small fries and a small soft drink for $5.00. It also has two Whopper meals for $8.99. I think I will post this flyer on my builtin board to track how high their prices go.

A well-made Whopper is tasty. But I’ve been burnt by Burger King the last couple of time in the past couple of years so I avoid going there. The next time I go in, I know it’s a hit or miss, the quality is just not guaranteed. Decades ago, they were more consistent, I noticed.

All these outfits are desperate for help. So anybody with a pulse gets hired. I realize this isn’t rocket science but I to have noticed variable quality and more messed up orders.

“So far the supply of idiots seems endless. That food just isnt worth the money.”

I have to agree. Even at today’s inflated prices, buy 1.5 pounds of 85% ground beef, add Tsb salt, pepper, some onion powder, minced garlic and bacon bits. Mix together, form into a flat square, divide into 4 sections. Roll each section into a ball and make flat with a dished center. You now have four patties that weigh .375 pounds. Fry cook the patties medium heat for 8 minutes, flip and insert a digital thermometer and cook until the center is 160-165 degrees. Do not touch the patties except to flip.

These 4 burgers will cost about the same a single Whopper in our market and are way better. I top with a sauce made of mayo, mustard, onion powder, pickle relish. Best burger ever. Get an air fryer and fry frozen french fries. At WalMart about a dollar a pound.

Instead of a Whopper get two (used to be) $1.00 small hamburgers. Runs me 2.12 with tax fortune. Less than a can of Campbell’s chunkie soup.

So I Googled it... and surprisingly still don’t have an official answer... although I learned a lot of interesting things. Did you know a whopper is worse for you than a Big Mac?

Burger King also has some really funny ad campaigns. One of which they encouraged people to unfriend others on Facefu*k for a free Whopper. Unfriend 10 peeps, get a Whopper. AND, their app sent a message to the person that they were unfriended for 1\10th the value of a Whopper!! haahhahah... Fakebook made them stop though.

It’s worth keeping old iron running. Those Willys Jeeps were probably the first S.U.V.’s, before they were a thing, ahead of their time.
