YouTube video on starting seeds. In view of experience most of his suggestions make sense.
Among other things he addresses issue of “Reach” and how to avoid . (Examples are brassica seedlings.) Also suggests planting things like tomatoes w/in a month or so of starting rather than growing for 2 months and doing multiple transplants before finally planting.
(Works for me!)

(I use bought potting mix and a seed innoculant to prevent damping off, but I am also not working with a lot of gardening space so my costs are low.)
That book looks good! We have one rain barrel - and I already want another.
I have had HUGE gardens through the years and I’ve never had any sort of irrigation system. I’ve always been a hands-on gardener, and I dislike what sprinklers (overhead watering) do to a garden as a whole - and they are SO wasteful. You need to water the ROOTS, not the leaves. Wet leaves are just asking for disease.
Lucky to have always had rain water and well water to work with, though, so that helped a lot.
And lots and lots and lots of hoses, LOL!
If you have the land to garden I think you should use it. In urban or suburban gardening you might have to use Square foot gardening, but I do not think it produces the best yields or results. This is part of a debate between him and by John Jeavons. (How to grow more vegetables in less space than you ever imagined.)
The picture frame greenhouses are awesome!
I just watched a YouTube video about the Nebraska man (Russ Finch) who uses geothermal heat to grow fruit all year.
This man was referenced on page one of this gardening thread.
I found a 20 minute video about him on YouTube called “Nebraska Man Uses Earth’s Heat To Grow Oranges In The Snow”.
He was 85 at the time that video was made. My dad is 85, 86 in a few weeks. I forwarded that video to my parents. Very interesting, using earth heat to keep the greenhouse at 52 (Nebraska deep ground temp). He used Lexan for the covering, my favorite covering.

love the mini greenhouses, especially the black!
Bought supplies today to make an all-black mini-greenhouse! Still kept it under $10. :) Got a new tube of E6000, so nothing will stop me now, LOL!
That’s on my list for Monday, I also found a black tray that will fit and its showing Dollar Tree had them. I want a base with tiny white gravel.
