The hospitals I am familiar with never used those little pocket PulseOx toys. I sometimes carried mine with me but rarely used it. If I had one of those who you simply could not get a Sat from I would bring it out. I carried lots of things with me. I had manometers, syringes, flashlights, and assorted things commonly used.

I do not remember what I paid for my oximeter, but it was relatively inexpensive. Years ago the prices were prohibitive. I also recall years ago that we were not permitted to use our own personal hand helds because of the FDA requirement.

You made me laugh.
