The Pt was ventilating which is the number 1 life function. Once things calmed down, somebody cleared their head enough to order the blood test, which is by far a more reliable way to evaluate O2 levels.

I swore to never forget that episode. It surely was incompetence and really not some manufacturing defect, though a lot of those Oximeters are complete garbage.

Nope if the oximeter isn’t reporting level correctly then it is a defective device..might be design, might be manufacturing defect. But it has a certain tolerance in it’s measurement it is allowed to vary within...if it exceeeds that it is a defect.

I agree they shouldn’t have just relied on the oximeter...just had to deal with complaints/MDRs too much in my line of work....(20+ years of med device)
