A Dutch company is currently building a 417-foot mega yacht for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos that, once complete, will be the largest sailing vessel in the world. The only problem? Its three masts are too tall to leave the shipyard without dismantling a huge piece of Dutch history and infrastructure: the Koningshavenbrug bridge, also known as the De Hef.
The bridge has stood in Rotterdam since 1927. It was heavily damaged in 1940 when the German Luftwaffe bombed the city. During renovations of the bridge in 2017, the city council promised residents the bridge would never again be dismantled. But when you have Bezos money, never is not all that long, from Dutch News:

After all, they move houses, don’t they?
This can’t be true. Wouldn’t the builders have thought of that? And can’t the masts be temporarily removed or tilted downward?
That’s one ugly boat. I guess taste doesn’t come with money.
No problem...
The one thing both Bezos and Soros learned in 2020 is that nothing, even a presidential election, cannot be overcome with the application of hundreds of millions of dollars...
This is the ugliest boat I’ve ever seen:

Yes, taste is a gift, and you can’t buy it.
Walravens hopes that with proper preparation, the middle section of the bridge will be removed for just one day.
you gotta consider the inconvenience factor for the locals...
obviously he doesn’t care...
Dismantle the stupid yacht.
I was on the Windstar a few years back and it was fantastic

Thanks! Nice boat. Depending on how high above the water the bridge deck is, that thing may have enough freeboard to interfere even w/o the masts... Just another first-world billionaire quandary, huh.
hah. We all wondered how that was gonna happen
Jeff can afford enough heavy lift helicopters.
Probably enough combined rotor wash to flatten the immediate area but these things happen.
I really can’t image why someone would want a yacht that large. Maybe he wants to use it as a launch/recovery platform with style.
Are Africans being used to tow it out of drydock? Or did the author mean "black hulled"?
Eye love spill Czech.
Should’ve had a submarine built like I did.
Hindsight…
I have wondered what the giant yacht thing was all about. I figured it was something pretty bad. That said, and I certainly do not wish anything evil on anybody....If I was a terrorist.... a drone and some, say, anthrax seems like some low hanging fruit and they would get a lot of bang for their buck.
