Nando (racing name KL Fernando) March 13, 2008 - January 31, 2022
He was a good dog and my best friend for over 10 years. I adopted him November 14, 2011 after he retired after a lackluster racing career, winning only 3 races. Although he was retired, he quickly raced into my heart. He was a "bounce", having previously been adopted and returned for potty problems in the house. During his time with me he grabbed a bag of egg noodles from the cabinet and ate them, dragged a bag of flour into the living room and opened it, took a bag of powdered sugar into my bedroom and shook it like a chew toy, destroyed many stuffies, pillows, comforters, coats, books, and shoes, and turned my backyard into a moonscape. Not once did he have potty problems in the house. Until recently when old age crept up on him. It was a good 10 years, but way to short. I miss him dearly.
Rejoice, because BraveMan is correct. We will meet up again some day...

My condolences. My pooch is closer to the end than the beginning, but he still delights me daily. True love, devotion, and one heck of a lot of fun. RIP.
My condolences on the loss of your pup.
My wife and I have a rescue named Stella. Mrs. MFO found her at the Kansas State Vet School while Stella was going in for a spay by the practicing Vet students.
Stella literally jumped in my wife’s arms the minute she saw her and it was all over from there.
She is a firm foundation in our household. I cringe to think of the day she leaves us.
Prayers up for comfort on your loss.
They happily await us at the Lord’s side.
Dogs are a gift ,
even cats who think they are dogs
like my jazzpur.
( he never mewoed, or barked, but he did growl /-)
He awaits with my other passed dogs .
They all await us all.
God’s gifts.
Condolences, he’ll be waiting for you....
I’m so, so sorry. I lost my two buddies of 15 years within the last 6 months - one from dementia, the other from cancer. I am meeting a new rescue on Thursday for possible adoption. The pain is still there but I still have a lot of love, and a warm home, for more pups. Hang in there!
I wish dogs lived as long as Democratic politicians and Democratic politicians lived as long as dogs…
I am so sorry for your loss. Sending a big hug to you. What a beautiful tribute!
I am so sorry for your loss
I am so sorry for your loss
Greyhound or Whippet? We had a whippet and loved to watch him run, beauty in motion!
I don’t know who originally wrote this, but...
Our Faithful Friend
When God had made the Earth and Sky, the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals, and all the birds and bees.
And when His work was finished, not one was quite the same,
He said, “I’ll walk the Earth of mine, and give each one a name.”
And so He traveled land and sea, and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him, until it’s strength was spent.
When all were named upon the Earth,
and in the sky and sea, the little creature said,
“Dear Lord, there’s not one left for me.”
The Father smiled and softly said, “I’ve left you ‘til the end,
I’ve turned my name from back to front, and called you DOG, my friend.”
I had 6 dogs, 3 ankle biters, and 3 large dogs.
I recently had to put my favorite little dog down, just before Christmas, because of heart-worms. He was such a good well-behaved dog, unlike his actual brother Psycho. 🙂 He was, however, also the only dog that absolutely refused to take any medicine. My wife and I tried everything to get the medicine into him. But he could smell it, and he would eat the treats that surrounded it. If we tried to force it down him. he would simply hold it in his mouth and refuse to swallow, and then spit it out at the earliest opportunity he had to do so.
It just broke my heart to have to put him down.
From the famous “Epitaph to a Dog”:
Near this spot
Are deposited the remains of one
Who possessed beauty without vanity
Strength without insolence
Courage without ferocity
And all the virtues of man without his vices….
He was a greyhound. They are wonderful dogs.
I’m sorry for you loss, aomagrat.
God bless you and your wonderful companion. We just last week had to put down one of our Cavvies. She was just shy of 13. I’d swear that the others grieve her loss as much as we do.
