"Blue Sky" is a song by the American rock band the Allman Brothers Band from their third studio album, Eat a Peach (1972), released on Capricorn Records. The song was written and sung by guitarist Dickey Betts, who penned it about his girlfriend (and later wife), Sandy "Bluesky" Wabegijig. The track is also notable as one of guitarist Duane Allman's final recorded performances with the group. The band's two guitarists, Duane Allman and Dickey Betts, alternate playing the song's lead: Allman's solo beginning 1:07 in, Betts joining in a shared melody line at 2:28, followed by Betts's solo at 2:37. The song is notably more country-inspired than many songs in the band's catalogue.

Living in Atlanta in 1972, I picked up a wooden crate with the Allman Brothers’ ‘peach logo’ on it. What a treat I had. Somewhere along my trials and tribulations, I lost it. I think of it a lot.
Never tire of listening to the Allman Brothers, the stuff with Duane is magic.
One of my all time favorites.
Released in 1972 on “Eat A Peach”, written by Dicky Betts, however Duane is all over that track. It was recorded in 1971. He is not in the photo.
I really started to get into the Allman Brothers last year or so.
If only the “Original Six” stayed intact, I’m convinced they would have been the biggest rock band of the 70s.
I had something like that once and I don’t know what happened to it either.
Yep. If I’d known in 1972 I had such a treasure, I would have shellacked that crate and hung it on the wall. Instead, I used it to put a lamp on, next to a bong. I’ve always been great at interior design.
Don’t miss it.
We had a debate at work about the “Great American Band”. What one band, by itself, typified American music.
My pick was The Allman Brothers.
The consensus was Aerosmith, which (imho) is a British band that just happens to be from Boston.
That would probably be my choice. Their influence was huge. Pretty much started Southern Rock, even though I never thought of them as a Southern Rock band.

Hard choice. I’d put Marshall Tucker Band up there. I’d consider Buffalo Springfield, but Neil Young was a Canuck.
Yes.
"Blue Sky" has become my favorite Allman Brothers tune.
I came across this clip on YouTube a few weeks ago. I have listened to it about a dozen times since then:
I would have put Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band in a close second place on that list.
I’d slap Van Halen into that list.
Saw the Eat a Peach tour in KC in 72 . Saw Wet Willy in Macon in 73 . Good times .
One of my all-time favorites! Thanks, FRiend.
Three of the five members of Buffalo Springfield were Canadians.
