Hold muh beer while I document my own insurance fraud.
This is disgusting. After he got his elbow scratched on landing and cussing aplenty at landing in some mountain brush he says, “I GUESS I should be documenting some of this.”
Really? Like ‘documenting the flight with a wing AND rear horizontal stabilizer CAMERAS presumably linked to a chase plane that surely was following him? (Recall the far shots of the plane in his innocent flight.)
Sure it was for clicks and revenue. He should be charged for any SAR and pickup and any other costs associated with getting his trifling butt outta there.
“I can’t see why this should be illegal.”
Deliberately letting an aircraft crash into an uncontrolled location is BAD. Yeah, it’s rank wilderness - you still don’t know where it will stop and what/who will be there. No different than shooting with no idea where the bullet will stop. “Rule 4: Know your target and what’s beyond.”
At best, there’s a mess to clean up which apparently he hadn’t planned to.
At worst, someone happens to be at the impact location, unaware an unpiloted plane is incoming (if engine stopped, pretty quiet).
This is the kind of stupid that results in more obnoxious & discouraging regulations. FAA will now investigate the incident, and decide a way to ensure it doesn’t happen again - reducing freedom of flight in the process.
...obvious staged...
Did he even try an engine restart?
Impossible to tell without inspection, but could have been in flight worthy condition, despite being a bit cosmetically banged up...Duct tape doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ill maintained...Military used 100 mph tape extensively...
Investigators will look into that...Too bad he wasted a nice little aircraft...Taylorcraft is a fun little taildragger if a bit limited in its performance (slow)...
Looks to be FUBAR from the crash pix...
“Looks to be FUBAR from the crash pix...”
Not even a parts plane, anymore.
There was no apparent chase plane. All footage was either from a fixed camera attached to the crashed plane, or a body cam on the pilot. The only far shot was the pilot filming the abandoned plane as he parachuted down. I do think it was all staged though.
Spend some time on the youtube site Jimmysworld and you'll understand how an old airplane can have zero value.
Although he should have to pay to remove the wreck from the mountain, and clean up the mess he made.
This, worth repeating.
Thanks, I’ll check it out.
See Evil Knievel
Really??? He drained most of the fuel before the flight. Before he let his "illegal airplane", crash in the mountains of Southern California. If the tanks had been full; presto, you have another California wild fire...
Plenty of youtube videos on this. It was a "Taylor Craft" plane, he totally wasted it. He hired a helicopter to fly the wreckage out before he posted his video.
But he spawned a bunch of funny videos. Check this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZegkTKzDcg0
That plane could have traveled into populated areas many miles from where he intended it to crash.
very good!
