A woman has questioned whether she was wrong to uninvite her stepfather from her upcoming wedding – which he paid for – after her brothers said they would not attend if he was there.

The bride-to-be, 25, said her mother is upset that she chose to uninvite her stepfather from her wedding after receiving an ultimatum from her older brothers.
She explained that the siblings went through a “rough time” at the time of their parent’s divorce and that her mother had since remarried. While the OP (original poster) has a “somewhat stable relationship” with her stepfather due to living with him for longer, her brothers resented him and “limited contact once they moved out [of the family home]”.

There are too many unanswered questions here.
What were the circumstances of the divorce? Marital abuse or amicable separation? Has the step father been abusive? Are the brothers unreasonable jerks who just want their mommy & daddy back together again? What does Momma think about this? Why isn’t the girls biological parents paying for the wedding?
Hard to tell who is wrong here, however, if I was the step father & was disinvited to the wedding, my checkbook would be closed immediately. Let the brothers pay for a wedding for which they have dictated the guest list.

Overvaluing oneself is not specific to either sex. You may think reciprocity is “overvaluing”. I do not. I’d say its more like equality.

LOL! I’m thinking of some of the true crime stories I’ve seen on TV or read. At times, wedding videos have been used by LEOs in investigations of crimes, especially murder.

The evil step mom is a trope in fairy tales for a reason.
I don’t blame you a bit for it - particularly if you’re not bringing kids of your own into the relationship. That strikes me as not only reasonable but completely fair to insist on the same in return for anybody you would consider getting into a relationship with.
How does reciprocity apply here? My point is that fussy, nit-picking males aren’t worth the trouble. Single mothers have quite enough to do without adding a demanding being to the mix. Couple that with the complaining addition’s desire to expropriate her resources for his personal use, and you have an undesirable situation. I’m certain we can agree that any single person of substance is a target for users. Anyone who is raising offspring doesn’t need another dependent.
I would have told them to elope. :D
